Recently two pictures have appeared on the net of an L100 flying in the US. It has a number on the tail not an N number and not a USAF number. 41901. An airplane with this number was reported in a Hangar at Lockheed Greenville about 2 years ago. There are about 5 Herks commonly called \"Mystery Herks\" 5032,5048,5055,5056, and 5057 Lockheed says they did not build 4 of them but, I think they lie. Four are registered with the FAA 5032 N3755P supposedly flying with Prescott, 5048 M82178 was used by ALC, 5055 N8231G flying with Prescott, 5056 N8218J last seen flying for Mega Trade. All are registered to lawyers offices in Montana. 5057 has never been seen.5032 is the on…

Google custom search on the main page does a good job of finding information, but is there a way to find acronym descriptions without leaving C-130 Hercules .net and searching the WEB? Attached is a list of some acronyms that I found on C-130 Hercules .net Maybe the list could be expanded and be added to the Forum: Tips and Tricks section. Many acronyms are well known, for example USAF, Sgt, FU, but many related to C-130’s / aircraft are unique. A list might help 'just enlisted' or non-military guests figure out what were talking about. Repost if you want to add to, update or change the list…. Acronym Description AAF Afghan Air Force ABCCC Airborne Battlefi…

Enter the Dragon Spear: Air Force Special Operations Command is currently fielding four MC-130W Combat Spear special-mission aircraft that are modified with a precision strike package (PSP) that gives them a gunship-like attack capability, Adm. Eric Olson, head of US Special Operations Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday. Converting these aircraft, which are henceforth dubbed Dragon Spears, is one means of quickly bolstering AFSOC's aging gunship fleet that is continually in high demand in Southwest Asia. Olson said ongoing improvements for these modified MC-130Ws include sensor upgrades, the integration of a standoff precision-guided munitions syste…

Hey everyone, 1st time poster. Anyway i was watching AFN and they had a piece on a new C-130 8 bladed prop that is being designed for the NY ANG flying the LC-130\'s. They said it was to help them by giving them more power/thrust for taking off in snow and to stop using the JATO rockets due to $$$. Can anyone shine more light on this development and does anyone know if these new props will go on E\'s and H\'s? I\'m guessing they will have to mod the valve housing alittle Thanks Joe

I arrived in Little Rock Air Force Base in 1972 from Clark. There was a C-130 crashed on the end of the runway. The accident investigation team determined it was called by a rudder fin stall. Does anybody remember that. I can't remember what a rudder fin stall was does anybody else.

Thought I'd start up a thread to track KC-130J deliveries to the Marines. My latest data shows: 5631 168074 Delivered Oct to VMGR-152, spotted in South Korea 5632 168075 Delivered Sep to VMGR-152, spotted in Japan That makes 38 delivered out of 46 ordered. They are slated to operate 15 KC-130Js by Sept 2011. 5644 168065 #14, might be in flight test 5645 168066 #15

As a retired FE (military & commercial), I have a lot of time on my hands & am easily amused. One of my daily rituals is to come visit this forum. The last thing I do before signing off is to check any new member's profile. If I'm the first there, I feel I've accomplished something for that day. For those of you who don't check members' profiles, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. For those of you that do (Larry, Sonny, Mt crewchief, etc), you know exactly what I'm talking about, right? Don R.

What are some of the weird/funny/illegal/interesting loads you've hauled or heard of hauled in your time? I've heard that there was a crew that took a POV on the road with them so they would have a set of wheels while they were there. Not sure how true that is... Would love to see some pictures!

Last week one of our planes hit some birds while flying low over the Pacific ocean. It was flying great all week, and now it\'s grounded for a few stupid seagulls. One tried to skewer itself on the pitot tube and left messy blood all over the nose by the crew door, another bounced off the armpit area and left blood and guts streaked all down the side from near the ATM all the way back to the paratroop door. The third bird went clean through the leading edge on the horizontal stab. [img size=400]http://herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/birdhole1.jpg Please share your best bird strike stories.

How high have you flown in a Herk? 31,000 ft.. Highest I've been in a herk, but I'm sure a lot of you have been higher. This was on our way to Andoya, Norway.. 15" mercury. Nice and tight for a 1963 model..

C-130E 62-1787 was recently identified as the airplane flown by Captain William R. Caldwell's crew as SPARE 617 over An Loc in April 1972. They were hit by heavy ground fire as they approached the drop zone. Jon Sanders, the engineer, was killed and most of the other crew members were wounded. Captain Caldwell and SSgt. Charles L. Shaub were awarded the Air Force Cross for their actions. 787 is current with the Arkansas Air Guard and is slated to go to the Air Force Museum upon retirement. It'll be on public display at the Yankee Air Museum in Yipsilanti, Michigan July 18-19.
