why do we LSGI for two minutes prior to shutdown.....I've know "save the turbines," "prevent clogging up the fuel nozzles" and "to eliminate coaking" Are all these equally valid reasons? If so what exactly is taking place; beside the obvious 69-75.5, bleed air valves opening etc. I don't understand how LSGI prevents "coaking".

Hy C130 world: I've got a small question for de FE's or tec's When you're on a mission abroad and and you're flying small mission, and at evenings your back with the maintenance people, do you take spare parts with you so you can repair or change parts on de aircraft? in the BE AF, we for example take a main wheel with us in case of, also a fly away kit with a few extra engine, APU and cell parts so the FE can change them. jumper plugs (speed sensitive switch, ignition relay) I don't speak in a hostile enviorment. any info will do fine, thx greetz herky400m

Got a turbine overheat indication on the T-handle and on the instrument panel and I can't figure out where my problem is. I've checked all four of the detectors in the clam shell (checked good) and installed a new keyer but those dang lights in the T-handle keep blinking. Any help ya'll can provide would be great.

Someone at work mentioned some kind of Airforce wartime manual. Basicly what things you can do to get the plane going when your getting shot at. An example would be plugging bullet holes in the plane with sharpened bamboo sticks to allow pressurization. Does anyone know this manual I speek of? Also a J model specific book would be awesome. If anyone has a copy of either an H or J book id love to read through it. TIA

Need more help with a couple of part numbers i can't find in the IPC. Anybody have the numbers for the screws in the flight deck overhead trim panels and the button clips for the trim at the side of the pilot seats? 4827 nearing completion, refurbishing the flight deck trim at the moment but IPC not very helpful. Last flight was 07.02.2004. Left to rot for 2 years but nearly ready to go back where she belongs. Many thanks.

I was going thru the H-3 -1 the other night and noticed that there was a TCTO to remove the Engine LCD Gauges on 95-1001 and above ans replace them with analog. I was wondering if that was all of them or just select aircraft and for what reason. Spent some time in the desert with Minnesota a while back with the 95's and I loved those gauges, so much nicer than the analog.

New to the site... Working for Lockheed Martin and I have a basic question on the torque indication for the -15 engines.... We accomplished a flight test recently and we had recorded the electrical signal off of the torque assembly and converted it to a Torque indication based on an equation supplied by Marietta.. What we found was the instrument always read about 10% on the top end less than our recorded value.. My question is has anyone done a digital vs mechanical inspection to see how accurate the mechanical gauge is as a digital one.. Also how accurate is the calibration to these instruments (how close are they to what we think is the right number).. I've see…

Been working this for about a week now. Little background on it. The plane left for depot two months ago with no hf problems, nothing in the previous 4 months as well. It landed at depot with #2 hf coupler fault and no tune tone. Depot serviced the coupler and were able to clear the fault and get the tune tone back, but they weren't able to transmit, blamed it on atmospherics , and wrote it up for an in-flight check. It landed back here with the no transmit problem. It tunes just fine, breaks squelch, no faults in any freq range, receive is crystal clear, just no transmit and no sidetone. We've swapped or replaced r/t's, r/t mounts, couplers, interloc…

Hello! Has anyone ever experienced throttle creep? The problem we are having is that # 3 engine on acft 78000812 has a slight throttle creep when you pull the throttle lever up out of the ground idle detent and move it ahead 1/2 knob and let it go it will move on it's on without going into the flight idle detent. When it moves there is no change in engine settings all FF,TORQUE,RPM,TIT Remain the same.We checked the rigging and it was good all cable tension was dead on.We even changed the fuel control and coordinator and gimble assy. The problem is still there. I don't feel it is in the engine .Can anyone give me any input? You can email me at daniel.gothe@pittsburgh…

Can any one tell me the FS paint references for the current two-tone grey Special Ops scheme please ? I believe the dark grey on the upper surface is FS36118 gunship grey and I've read the lighter underside grey is FS36293 but when I did a paint test (for a model build) the light grey seemed way too dark. Anybody help ? Cheers, Haydn.

First post here. Just found out about the website. Nice. Hypothetical situation. Offstation on a JA/ATT (but within driving distance of home). You get a prop low oil light. Land. Upon inspection, you have the worst prop leak you have ever seen; definitely could be described as an "excessive visible fluid leak". MX tops it off, signs it off, and says that they'd rather you fly it back home and do a prop change there. Do you fly it home? The flight is only 45 minutes...

Has anyone seen a L8743039-1 heat exchanger installed? It is the newer Heat Exchanger and was supplied to me unpainted, (It is stainless steel). The older 85027-1 Heat Exchanger is aluminum in construction and painted with Black Wrinkle (High Heat) paint. Just wondering if anyone has seen the stainless steel version installed, or knows of a paint spec or type for the L8743039-1 exchanger.

I hope this is the proper thread for this. Just an observation: the other day I visited a C-130 on static display, the crew had a small ladder set up to aid people in entering the paratroop door. As I climbed in the door I got grease all over my hand. Now, it's been well over 40 years since I crewed #877, but I seem to remember a rather senior 82nd Airborne officer telling me in no uncertain terms that he did not want his troopers getting grease all over themselves while exiting my aircraft. Norm Plantz and I came up with the idea of using soap on the door tracks, if anything at all. Mostly I made sure that the door tracks stayed "very" clean...Chris

Our shop has been having this radar stab problem on a '63 model since last Friday and we've been working it everyday since. The original write-up was a simple "Radar stab inop". Right away we tried flying the gyro and got nothing; no gyro-following from the antenna at any point after turn on when it was in STAB. It would scan, sector, tilt and beam change just fine. The first shift to work it changed a gyro: no fix. Then they changed an ECA: no fix. They then changed the antenna: no fix and after a few minutes of power up apparently the new antenna started smoking , so they QDR'd that one and ordered another antenna for my shift to change. They also rep…
