I'm surprised no one has mentioned it already, but the city of Abilene and Dyess AFB are having a big bash at the end of April to celebrate 50 years of C-130s at Dyess. The first ones stationed there were with the 64th Troop Carrier Wing and were C-130As from Sewart. In 1963 Dyess converted to Es and the 516th replaced the 64th - one squadron of A-models went back to Sewart and the other went to Elemendorf. The 463rd "replaced" the 516th (all paperwork) in 1972 then at some point they changed it to the 317th. They are inviting everyone who has ever been at Dyess in Herks to come back.

All, I am no longer with my previous employer and regrettably no longer working with the C-130 community. Please accept my sincere thank you for all the help, advice and humor the members of this board have provided over the years. I’ll drop in from time to time to stay caught up, but again I really needed to express my thanks and heart felt appreciation for everyone here. Eric aka Jetcal1

I am working on a new book which should be available soon. It's called HAULING TRASH and is my personal memoir of my 12 years hauling trash in C-130s at Pope, Naha and Clark, C-141s at Robins and C-5s at Charleston and Dover. Check my author page on Amazon.com and it'll show up as soon as it goes in print, which should be within the next few days. Also, I have now made my C-130 flareship novel The Cave available on Kindle. Here's the link - http://www.amazon.com/The-Cave-ebook/dp/B009F6YOQG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

If anyone is interested, I've written several new books and revised my C-130 book (added pictures) and troop carrier history (ditto.) They're all available on Amazon. If anyone wants autographed copies, I am now set up for Pay Pal. Check www.sammcgowan.com/books.html for details on how to order. I have written a sequel to The Cave which is set at Clark in 1969-71. The title is MORTAR MAGNETS.

Safair, a South African cargo operator, is in great need of herk capts. They have operations in South America, Afghanistan, Southeast Asia and Africa. The jobs are a combination of commercial work, UN relief and peacekeeping work and some Nato contracts. The contract period is usually one year, the south african licence validation is a piece of cake and you can fly until 65. Also the pay is pretty good so anyone interested checkout their website.

Hi, folks, Just wanted to let you know my latest novel, SILENT ENEMY, hits the bookstores on August 4th. It's a story that I hope will do the airlift community proud; nearly all the action takes place in flight, aboard a C-5 Galaxy. Booklist says, "Fans of Clancy, Coonts, and Dale Brown need to add Young to their must read lists.” SILENT ENEMY is already available for pre-order on Amazon and all the other online booksellers.
