Rudder Boost Pressure

Recommended Posts

Rudder Boost Pressure (with flaps up) should be normally 1100-1400psi. IAW the limitations section of the FM, 1400-1600psi is caution and 1600psi is the maximum allowable operating pressure. So, if the rudder press. is 1600psi(with flaps up) would you consider that a discrepancy? What could be the corrective action(i.e. transmitter?)

Thats really an involved question but the straight answer from the flyer side is 1400 psi is the max allowable with the 1400-1600 being an emergency operating range.

Any pressure above 1600 would really mean dont use the rudder, the danger of structural damage/loss of control is really high using the rudder with high pressure at speed.

You would not take an aircraft up with the pressure outside of the NORMAL operating range (above 1400).

As for corrective action, I will have to pass off to a MX guy for that answer.

If you're getting 1600psi with the flaps up and you are getting 3,000psi with the flaps down your pressure reducer is stuck. The correct way of fixing it would be to replace the pressure reducer on the diverter panel. The quick fix would be to smack the pressure reducer with a flashlight or back the adjustment knob out about 1/8th of a turn.
