Sparks Posted July 29, 2013 Share Posted July 29, 2013 Colonel George "Bud" Day passed away at his home in Shalimar Florida today. He was 88. Born in 1925, Bud served in the Air Force with distinction. After having been shot down over North Viet Nam, he survived 5 1/2 years as a POW. He attempted at least one escape from confinement. During captivity, Col. Day spent a short time sharing a cell with John McCain. Today Senator McCain said "Bud was one of the most courageous men I have ever known". McCain, went on to extend praise for Col Day's encouragement and support to those POW's he was imprisoned with. Among his many accolades, he is also the recipient of the Medal of Honor. A service will be held on Thursday Aug 1st at the Emerald Coast Conference Center. He will be buried with full Military Honors at Barrancas National Cemetery on Saturday. He related his experiences at the Hanoi Hilton, the cruelty he suffered at the hands of his captors inspired me. Our nation owes him the deepest respect!
