The Lockheed C-130M Hercules transport plane suffered a landing accident at Teniente Rodolfo Marsh Martin Air Base, King George Island, Antarctica. The right hand main landing gear reportedly collapsed while landing on runway 29. The nr.4 propeller separated.

A C-130 Hercules aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) crashed on Thursday during landing in the Chilean base Eduardo Frei, in Antarctica, no injuries, reported the FAB in a statement.

The right hand main landing gear reportedly collapsed while landing on runway 29. The nr.4 propeller separated.

“The occurrence was around 11 am (local time). There were no injuries. The Brazilian Air Force will investigate factors contributing to the occurrence,” said the FAB in the note.

According the Chilean state television, the plane flipped in adverse weather conditions.

The aircraft was conducting a mission of the Brazilian Antarctic Program (Proantar) added to FAB.

Looks like the wing tip cap is the only damage. If it was further in, like into #4 main tank there would be a lot fuel all around the tip...I would think. You can knock or shear the tip (Cap) and not get into the tank...if you are lucky as we were in Tief, Saudie Arabia on our last D.S. rote. Took the tip shards off, speed taped it and flew back to King Fhaud apt. A good day. Bill:)
