Two of the world’s biggest bushfire-fighting aircraft have landed on Victorian soil ahead of what is expected to be a scorching summer.

The C-130 Hercules and the RJ85 are among the 47 water bombers that have been brought in from overseas for the bushfire season.

They will join another 100 aircraft in the $23.3 million bushfire defence fleet that can be called on to fight blazes this summer.

Minister for Emergency Services Jane Garrett inspected the fleet at Avalon Airport and said the aircraft were key to keeping Victorians safe.

“The large air tankers are game-changers when it comes to fighting bushfires,’’ she said.

“The aircraft will support our firefighters on the front line and help keep communities safe.

“We want to make sure we are well prepared for a potentially devastating fire season.”

Each large air tanker can carry 12,000 liters of water, retardant or foam, and will drop more than a million liters of retardant on bushfires if the season matches last year.

Emergency services have already responded to more than 1600 fires across the state, including the Lancefield-Cobaw blaze, which kicked the season off early with up to four houses lost.

Two 7500-litre air cranes — Elsie and Ichabod — have been brought in to replace Elvis, which was retired from the Victorian fleet several seasons ago.

The fleet arrived after the Bureau of Meteorology said this spring was the driest in seven years in Victoria. The Government has warned scores of country towns to brace for drought conditions.

Water Minister Lisa Neville said water restrictions could be put in place if the trend continued. Towns on notice include Colac, Daylesford, Corryong, Romsey and Lancefield.

I think the Tanker-10 may be a little bigger...

Yes but doesn't it sound better than ""A couple of good sized brushfire-fighting aircraft have landed on Victorian soil ahead of what is expected to be a scorching summer?"
