  1. NATOPS are you still at Ft Worth? Have you heard anything about 169925 coming to Ft Worth. I had heard it was going there but it is now on the ramp at Lockheed with BH on the tail? Thanks Bob
  2. All, I got this in an e mail. Vet looking for help. Anyone now about this incident? Thanks Bob I'm writing you about a flight i was on 30 may 72. We was landing and a rocket blew up right in front of the windshield. Then when we was landing about five more rounds went off all around us still don't know how we didn't get hit but we made it thru the mess and i unloaded the trucks they took off again. I seen all this in a book and it gave me the time it was 0330 early morning but i didn't know that five rounds over shot us and went over in town and killed 12 civilians. If you heard of this can you please let me know the author of the book i think he was a fac but he knew of the flight and i need to get all i can on this flight to prove i was boots in the country. I was exposed to the dioxin agent orange and had to retire early from my career job with the army corp of engineers. If you know any one that could prove this flight could you help me out . it's a shame that 12 was killed from this attack.I had the paragraph and the story but i thought it was in my downloads and it wasn't and i can't find it to copy it. Dale Snyder Thanks for any help i can get.

    VMGR234

VMGR234 at JRB Ft Worth has traded in all their KC-130T's. Three were sold as I understand, 162786 and 163022 to the PI, and 162785 to Argentina. The rest scattered about to the USN and USMCR. VMGR234 had received, last I heard, 5 J's and were supposed to get 7 more. 165739, 166473, 167111, 168073 and 169018 were there. New question, recently seen at Lockgreed KC-130T 169225. I had heard it was for 234 QH but instead it is painted BH? Anyone, maybe NATOPS, know the real story? Thanks Bob
  5. Has anyone heard the fate of 64-0541. It was originally going to the Alaska Museum at Anchorage, but they turned it down. It was last seen rotting away on the ramp at the old ANG Base at Anchorage Intl. AF Museum says it now belongs to Elmendorf! Thanks Bob
  6. The HC-130N's will stay with the AK ANG and support the HH-60's. Only the slicks are going to C-17's. Bob Hard to do another Delta type SQ unless it is the ANG or AFRES since I think there are only four AMC Herk squadrons left in the States, 2 at LRF and 2 at DYS?
  7. Thanks Bob 12 may 82 62AS 64-0543 wing broke, 12 Mar 85 62AS 64-0549 CDS drop, 28 Feb 84 37AS 68-10944 Zaragosa, 2 Nov 84 37TAS 68-10946 Giebelstadt.
  8. WY ANG already has 2 MAFFS units. Bob
  9. 68-10945 was the one that crashed at Bragg. Pilot flew a lousy LAPES approach and pulled out too late, in 1987. There used to be a good video of that one. Bob 942 was hit by the F-16 but was repaired. The whole 68 series had bad luck. 934 lost an engine in flight and was scrapped, 936 lost in a lightning strike, 942 mid air, 944 hit the mountain, 945 LAPES crash, 946 hard landing, 951 crashed at Ft Campbell.
  10. Trying to get to Safety records of active duty Sqdns. Their most recent accidents. Not really sure but I think all of the "Active Associate" Sqdns may have gone away. The situation at Little Rock is a little confusing to me, but here goes. 36AS at Yokota May 1969 Sgt Myers stole 63-7789, went down in the English Channel. 37AS at Ramstein Germany 68-10946 November 1984 hard Landing 2AS Maybe still at Pope? 86-0412 in Iraq Jun 2008 3 engine roll back 39AS at Dyess 74-1662 Jackson Hole August 1996 flew into mountain(08-3174 in Afghanistan 2015-no cause) 40AS at Dyess 64-0501 North Carolina April 1992 crashed into a lake Little Rock 41AS 04-3144 Afghanistan May 2013 Off the end 48AS 61-0955 Ft Campbell October 1966 Wake turbulence a B model 50AS May be deactivated? 68-10951 Ft Campbell Throttle cable December 1978 61AS 63-7854 Kuwait VFR approach in IFR condtions December 1999 62AS Associate unit with the ANG? 64-0549 Ft Hood Drops 1985 There is one other accident which I had no squadron for, only a wing number. 63-7853 43AW 2006. The squadrons listed were the squadrons the crews were assigned to. Bob
  11. Do we still have a DEW line? Very likely some other unit will pick up the MAFFS commitment. It looks like all the H's through at least the 82 models are going to DM for beer cans and the freed up herks will go to replace them. Bob
  12. The pictures are in the gallery under 3804 which was its Lockheed construction number. The aircraft was being ferried Clark AB in the PI to Robins AFB GA for maintenance. Next stop Midway island. Someone told me about the crash. I remember, I think, that he had gone to the accident scene and took the pictures. They made a normal takeoff, started to climb out and sunk back down and hit the runway, after hitting the runway the aircraft exploded and ran off the end of the runway and the wreckage ended up on the side of the cliff where the pictures were taken. There is more to the story because the aircraft seemed to be functioning normally, but I can't remember the cause. Bob Where are you in Texas, I'm in Dallas. BTW if you want to try you might be able to get a copy of the accident report from the USAF by filing a FOIA request.
  13. This pic is of 62-1854 abandoned at Kontum in 72 Bob
  14. Interesting AK ANG to lose H's get C-17's, NC ANG to lose H's get C-17's, AFRC Pitt 5to lose H's get C-17's, Niagara to lose H's get C-17's. Baltimore to lose A-10's get H's. DM to lose 6 EC-H's And more, Bob
  15. The Post-Warthog Plan —Brian Everstine The Air Force is adjusting its original plan for replacing Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve A-10s after several failed attempts to divest the fleet. A new Force Structure Action plan based on the Fiscal 2017 budget request details what Guard and Reserve units will fly once they lose their A-10s. USAF now plans to begin replacing the venerable Warthogs on a "squadron-by-squadron" basis in Fiscal 2018. The final aircraft is slated to retire in 2022 after the F-35 comes on line. For example, in 2018, the Reserve A-10 unit at Whiteman AFB, Mo., and the Guard unit at Fort Wayne ANGS, Ind., will both transfer to F-16s. In 2020, the unit at Martin State Airport in Maryland will lose 21 A-10s and gain eight C-130s. In 2021, Selfridge ANGB, Mich., will lose 21 A-10s and gain 8 KC-135s, while the unit at Gowen Field, Idaho, will lose 21 A-10s and gain 20 F-15Cs. The operational A-10 unit at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., will lose 25 Warthogs in Fiscal 2019 and will gain 21 F-16s the same year. The training units assigned to the base will be disbanded in Fiscal 2020 and 2021, losing a total of 58 A-10s, according to the plan. The Air Force will replace the units assigned to the Guard and Reserve, but there are currently no plans to replace Active Duty A-10 units. However, there is still time to come up with follow-on missions for the Active Duty if necessary, said Lt. Gen. Mike Holmes, the deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and requirements. Active Duty A-10s are stationed at Davis-Monthan; Nellis AFB, Nev.; Moody AFB, Ga.; Eglin AFB, Fla.; and Osan AB, South Korea. SMSGT Otha Leach was in KC-97's for ever and then converted to Herks He was an FE later SEFE. Bob
  17. The rumor of the 181 AS damage got me thinking about flying safety. Going back I can come up with 32 AFR C-130 units-now 12 and 36 ANG units-now 24. I'll try to do the active duty units later. Of the 12 AFR units still flying only 2 have had accidents. 95 AS had 2 both in Honduras 56-0501 an A in 1985 and 88-4408 an H in 1997. 731AS had 1 62-1838 in Idaho in 1995. Of the 12 units 9 have been accident free for 33 years or more and of those 96AS has been 46 years, 328AS 45 years, 815AS 43 years. Of the 24 ANG units still flying, only 4 have had accidents, 156AS 93-1458 an H,firefighting in South Dakota, in 2012, 154TRS 61-2373 an E in 1988, at Greenville MS,when the unit was transitioning, 165 AS 58-0732 a B at Evansville IN, in 1992 and maybe 192 AS 79-0478 an H in 2015-not sure if a probable cause was reached on that one, in SW Asia. 15 of the 24 units have been accident free for 38 years or more. 115AS with 46 years and 109AS with 45 years lead the pack. An absolutely amazing safety record. Shows excellent maintenance and highly skilled flight crews. Bob I will attempt to figure out the Active duty squadrons, it will take me longer because sometimes I can only find wg numbers not squadron numbers. Any corrections appreciated!

Here is a pic of us delivering the first C-130 to TX ANG, a B model 58-0758 on 9 Mar 1978. Bob I am standing on the left

    181 AS

I heard a rumor that my old unit 181AS TX ANG had an aircraft shot up yesterday in Taji, Trashcanistan. Holed the wings, no word on injuries or aircraft status. Bob
  21. For the USCG, the C-27 were free, they'll probably keep them a long time. For the USAF, they never really wanted them, they just did not want the Army to have them, just like the Caribou. Bob
  22. From the above Coast Guard rumors. USCG has 6 J's at Elizabeth City, 3 more not fully upgraded probably go to Kodiak. Sacramento and Clearwater are to lose Herks and get C-27's. If USCG parks 2 more at AMARG this year and gives 5 more to USFS, they will only have 12 H's left. Probably keep them flying until they get enough J's bob
  23. scattered all over, if you mean the 50th 8 went to Dobbins, the other 6 were scattered about. You can sort the above list by tail number if you want. bob
  24. BTW, I updated the inventory above (all herks 20), I have pretty accurate USAF, USCG, USMC/USN info but would really appreciate any updates or corrections on non US Herks. Thanks again Bob
