  3. A very good friend of mine worked ECS at Langley, later went to Guard at Martinsburg, and then to Glenn L. Martin, all on 130's. Then somehow, he decided to come over to the dark side and became a fire department chief at a guard base in Ohio. I think he liked the work, and the chances to go just about anywhere the herks went.............Sadly he passed away in "98 three months shy of his 48th birthday......Some of you old Langley guys may remember him as " Julius", all six foot four inches of him Giz

  7. If you weren't one before, you would become one real quick!!!!!!!!!!! There WAS an image to maintain, you understand....I cannot imagine how it would have been had we had female crew members back in the day!!!!!!!!!
  8. I think I will exercise my fifth amendment rights on that one. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. yep, that be the one. We were at CCK and I don't know what all was in our load, five pallets worth if I remember. It was more like the island sank than rain came down.........
  10. Today will be the last reunion of the remaining members of Doolittle's B-25 Raiders. There are only four left, and only three can now travel. so they have decided this is their last. Those of you who have been to the USAF Museum at Wright-Pat may remember the goblets and bottle of 1896 Cognac. They will open it today, even though it was supposed to be a "Last Man Standing" thing. So another American aviation story comes to a close. Four out of eighty......... Thank you all........... Giz
  11. Just saw some coverage of the aftermath of this monster storm, and guess what, there was the Old Girl bringin' in supplies and taking injured out..........Just like so many times before, she comes through again!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Anybody remember the monsoons that hit the PI the end of July, ( I think), '72????? Hauled relief supplies in, maybe to Clark, but for some reason my feeble mid says somewhere else,,,where we parked to off-load, the water was almost to the forst step of the crew entrance door. I know I was wet to my knees.........The 36th, maybe others as well, got a Phillipine Presidential Unit Citation for the effort. I kept lookin' for the big boat with all the animals!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Muff, hope you have more ahead of ya than behind ya. All the best to ya.............. Giz

I have about that much more on the back porch and even more over on the right in the picture that you can't see. reckon I have nearly seven cords all told. Had two big hickory trees blow down last spring, unbelievably, and and am splittin' those big brutes up. For you city folks, green hickory smells like a wet horse when you split it. also had a 80 foot white oak hit by lightning two years ago, killed it, and had taken down as well. Thing has 126 rings in the base. I got my wife a nice log splitter and she is slowly gettin' them split up.. LOL!!!!!!!

    For Giz

Been there, done that! Seems kinda contradictory that someone who could be, at times, rather coarse and brash, profane and obscene, ill-tempered and lacking tolerance for others, could do such a thing, or feel sadness and a sense of loss when a call just doesn't work out for an adult, even though you gave your best, or feel like your heart has been ripped out when you have to deal with a badly injured child, don't it??? But that's what we do..........why is anybody's guess!!
  22. Ain't necessarily a stereotype......several years ago, I had a neighbor who's son was datin' an exquisite blonde,,,,,incredibly beautiful but dumb as a box of rocks. One evening, somehow the conversation got around to sun rises and such, and my neighbor said she liked bein' at Myrtle Beach because the condo they alwasy rented faced to the east and she loved to watch the sun rise. The blonde says " You mean people in California never get to see the sun come up?"""

Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is criminal that situations like this have to be endured. Problem is nobody is held responsible for this ineptitude. But at least Ben has gotten his well-earned benefits. Welcome home, brother. Giz
  24. Must have been one of those great new jobs Obama claims to have generated!!!!!!!!!!
  25. Can't be six years already!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Casey, not only have you set up a forum to exchange stories, information and assistance on the Old Girl, it has been a very fertile ground to renew old acquaintances, recall old memories, and develop great new friendships. on downwind, turnin' on final giz
