Just finished reading about the ABL 747 being sent to the boneyard in this months AF Asso. mag. It also had a pic of an early HC-130 sans ext. tanks with a laser turret in the fwd belly. All numbers were scrubbed with only ET on the vert fin. This is old info and pic...curious as to what the tail number was and did it go to the boneyard too? The article didn't say what happened to the Herk. Bill

Hello guys, did anyone have a list of require parts that we need during do the inspection especially SP card. What i mean the list of parts for every SP card .This is my proposal to get the provisioning before do the inspection. This also can cut the time and cost rather than study the SP card and then demand the parts. The problem is if we need the parts during inspection but the parts not available, we must extend the inspection till receive the part. This is not the health culture for maintenance.

How high have you flown in a Herk? 31,000 ft.. Highest I've been in a herk, but I'm sure a lot of you have been higher. This was on our way to Andoya, Norway.. 15" mercury. Nice and tight for a 1963 model..

From Lockheed's March 2012 PROVEN Newsletter. A new Lynden company and Airline is born: LAC PNG takes flight This past year the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Papua New Guinea issued an Air Operator Certificate to Lynden Air Cargo (PNG) Ltd., creating the world’s newest airline. After nearly two years of hard work by Lynden Air Cargo employees, the company is operational. “The first run was crewed by Captain Steve Thompson, First Officer Craig Breitung, Flight Engineer Paul Krawchuck and Loadmaster Dan Marshall with support from Mechanics Ken Horwood and Stewart McArvail. There was no time wasted afterward in loading the aircraft for its first revenue flight…

When I was with 424 in the RCAF I got this patch. It has since gone missing, but it's one of the greatest patches I have ever seen. Just wondering what else it out there in terms of Herc Patches!

Hi Folks, I am planning to build a 1/72 model of this aircraft. I saw the YMC-130H many years ago at the WR museum and had no clue what I was looking at but knew it was different. Took a bunch of pics, came home and researched it and really fell in love with the concept and effort. I have finally cleared the work bench and want to get this project going. I have worked Google over and feel I have gotten what I can from the web. Do any of you Herk fans know where I can purchase a set of plans for this aircraft. I have seen some small line drawings on the web and they would work fine if I could get them in a larger scale. I contacted Lockheed and they sent me to a site w…

From the Air Force Association: Down the Line, One Last Time: The last MC-130E Combat Talon I to enter programmed depot maintenance before the MC-130 fleet is retired has nearly finished its final refit, according to officials at Robins AFB, Ga., home of the depot. Tail No. 62-1843—the oldest Combat Talon I still in service—was in "pretty bad shape upon arrival," noted Kevin Johnson, 560th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron MC-130 line supervisor. "There is generally a good bit of work for everyone involved—structural and avionics-wise," added George Hoffman, 560th AMXS PDM flight chief. Consistently deployed, often supporting clandestine operations in austere condition…

The aircraft was on its way from Evenes in northern Norway to Kiruna in the far north of Sweden when it went missing around 3pm, according to local media reports. "We don't know what happened. It's gone," an operator at Swedish emergency service SOS Alarm told the local Norrländska Socialdemokraten newspaper. The plane was participating in a Cold Response military training exercise, the Norwegian Armed Forces said. Visit The Local to read the full story.

The daredevil pilot of this Hercules aircraft risked life and limb - and the heads of terrified onlookers - when he skimmed the plane just five metres above the ground. Cruising at 220mph, the Swedish Air Force's C-130 is seen dipping over trees to dangerously sweep across a field. Came across an original copy of this at a local bookstore. It was published by Lockheed Corporation in 1981, and gives technical information on the A thu E models. Don't see much about it on the internet and was wondering what the history of this book is.

It's been a while for me, 25 years, but there use to be C-130A, B, E, H, HC-H, HC-N, and HC-P designations. The HC-H and P's had the Fulton radome. Did they change all the designations, etc? Just curious.

Out of the Shadow Emerges the Commando II: Air Force Special Operations Command has changed the name of its new MC-130J aircraft. Gone is Combat Shadow II. In its place is Commando II, announced command officials Thursday. "This name best reflects the multi-mission role of the aircraft and the units that will fly them," said Lt. Gen. Eric Fiel, AFSOC commander. It also "embodies the broader linage of special operations force aircraft," he said. The Air Force's original Commando was the C-46 transport that served from World War II until the late 1960s. Before settling on Commando II, AFSOC officials said they also considered Combat Arrow and Combat Knife. The MC-130J is de…

Hi all Got a Q on this 4 engine roll back checklist. Lockheed Safety Supp C-130 No 64 Step 1 is Go to NULL on the TD's.. Step 2 is GO to Mech Gov on the props Step 3 is to Turn Sinc Master Switch to OFF It’s this step that gets me.. Why if you are already in Mech Governing do you need to turn the Sync Sw to Off?? especially when in the preamble it says Synicrophaser induced RPM reductions do not result in significant power loss Going to Mech Governing gets rid off all the Electrons out at the prop as why the sep 3 then??? Enquiring minds would like to know.. Chris

We have had problems with the main landing gears in our C 130 B /H. I would like to know about the maximum landing weight. (118.000 for B and 130.000 for H models). Basically my question is if you normally operate with mo tham those weights during landing with the 300 ft/min restriction or you never operate aboves this numbers but in an emergency........
