I was just curious what happened to all the C-130s that were assigned to Elmendorf AFB when they got C-17s? I would think they would stay with PACAF and go to Yokota, but I\'m not sure. Anyone know? I ended up doing a good bit of work on those bird in Afghanistan in 2005, but didn\'t enjoy it at all. They were pig compared to the ANG Herks. Thanks in advance, Jason

Just thinking back to my first real experience with Herkys. I think it was in December of 1970. Some of us from the Aerial Delivery section at Travis went on a mobility to Ft. Greeley, AK. It was a joint operation between the Air Force, U.S. Army and the Canadian Forces. They moved the Army guys out of the huts and into tents to make room for us spoiled air force guys. At one point, the wind chill was 116F BELOW zero. Ft. Greeley\'s ramp could only hold about 2 large aircraft and we were trying to run an operation with Canadian 130\'s and our 141\'s. One time one of our 130 crews asked to have something unloaded from their a/c. I went out there with one of those large,…

Hello all, 1st time posting. Anyways, today my AMU ncoic called the crew chief functional and asked if the functional could help me out and get back to a 130 unit, right now i'm in a en-route unit and would love to be back in a herc squadron. It was a short conversation between the two but what he got out of it was if i "wanted" to go back to a 130 squadron, i should have Cheyenne (sp), Keesler, Peterson and Pope. because they are building up alot of the res bases. So my question to all of you is how are these bases? My dream sheet is Peterson, Keelser, Cheyenne, Cannon and DM. I was station at DM for 4 years before my en-route tour so i just need info on the rest.…

Back in 66 there was an accident at Dyess. 63-7886 crashed on a night low level. All on board were killed except one of the LM's A2C Gary Speer. The son of the FE wrote looking for info about the crash, also wondering about Gary Speer. Seems I remember he was still alive but "Old Timers"? Anyone have any info on Gary Speer? Thanks Bob

I saw a strange looking Herk last week here on base. A Navy C-130 with support structure and a disc on the top side. I think the # of it was either 137 or 143 but I an not 100% on that. Anybody have any input on this ?? Thanks

Hey all, I just wanted to throw this out there that so far I have been medically cleared to pursue my cross training into the Flight Engineer career field. After 10 years of \"Crew Dawg\" work and making TECH I hit my wall and cross road at the same time. I still have the whole approval process yet from AFPC, but so far things look good. I am getting pumped up again about a new path in my career. Any and all suggestions, comments, and tips are very much welcome. I\'ll keep you all posted. DaveB)

I donot want to start something but I thought this might be if interest to some. C-130J Off To War, Opens New Air Force Chapter Regular duty to put new cargo plane to test By Amy Schlesing, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Capt. Ben Robins raised his hands in the air and cheered from his perch on a concrete barrier near the edge of the Little Rock Air Force Base flight line Monday as he watched the C-130J slowly roll toward the runway. Shortly before 6 p.m., as the evening sun set the sky ablaze with streaks of pink and orange, Lt. Col. Dan Tulley, 41st Airlift Squadron commander, coaxed Tail No. 3145 airborne, the first C-130J cargo plane in the active Air For…

What do you have to do to go from slicks at Dyess to a Talon? How and what are the prerequisites? It\'s not advertised on AMS. Thanks.

Big article in this months Air Force Asso. mag about the AC-130W Stinger gunship getting 4 small diameter bombs under each wing(SDB) for a limited standoff precision strike capability. Also says they are testing Hellfire missles on the bird. Now THAT will be a kickbuttski gunship. The mag and article can also be accessed online. Waiting for pics. Bill

In early January 63-7823 was flying in AMC at Little Rock with a lot of time until it had to be grounded. Tuesday it showed up at DM. It was not inducted into AMARG but was towed right into the ARM yard. It is supposed to be "being prepared for road transport". Anyone know why it was sent out to Tucson even though it seemed to have a lot of time on it? Anyone know where it is going? Or why it was not processed through AMARG? Thanks Bob I'll try to attach some pictures from the Wombat.

I got the below off the AFMagazine daily report: But if I remember correctly we dropped from 10000 ft and hit a soccor field that was only 100 yards long and most bundles hit the field. The new system will hit within 135 yards of target!!!! And they call this progress? Go figure. Muff Going 3-D: The aircrew of a C-17 transport assigned to the 3rd Wing at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, on March 19 completed the first improved container delivery system, or ICDS, airdrop using new three-dimensional weather technology that improves delivery accuracy. "We've done ICDS drops in the last year but not as accurate as [this] drop," said Maj. William Friar, instructor aircraft comma…

Anyone ever fly with any of these guys?

It says in the GE and in the -6 to set tires to a slightly lower pressure for substandard fields, as I\'m sure you all know. It also says to set pressures for the highest takeoff weight of the day. So if you\'re taking off from a concrete runway, then landing on dirt, then coming back to concrete, do you set the tire pressures to the max gross weight for standard fields or for the dirt fields?

Performance refusal-critical failure speed 1 2

Hello guys I am new in C-130 family and i would like to ask why in performance (about t-56-a15 engine C-130H) table with title “REFUSAL SPEED AND CRITICAL ENGINE FAILURE SPEED†we have 2 correction grid for wind (one for refusal and one for critical failure speed)? Also, why we have correction grid for “WITHOUT NOSEWHEEL STEERING†only for critical failure speed and not for refusal? I know that refusal speed based on runway available but how the wind influence in different form these two speeds. Thanks in advance for your time George

I am an aspiring writer and am in the middle of a novel where C-130's play a part. I know next to nothing about C-130's not to mention flying in general. I see this is a very technically oriented site so my questions will extermely basic. Can a two person team fly a C-130 if the only mission is to fly the plane. No payload. Would a pilot and navigator be enough? Could one person fly the plane in an emergency? Thanks for any information you could provide. Julio

Looking for Travel orders with my name on it, one order is T121. I was assigned to the 776TAS from March 67 to July 69. I am trying to get my DD214 corrected. The Air Force did not always track our TDY assignments, thus those CRB and Tuy Hoa rotations didn't make it to the DD214. After a lot of reading and research I have come to realize that most of us that served at CCK and made those trips are missing that very important information. Our VA system won't give you an Agent Orange test/evaluation in less you can prove boots on the ground in Vietnam. Also looking for the following airmen Adley Eisen Doyle Frazer Raymond Ryan fist name? Last name Warren Th…
