Looking for Travel orders with my name on it, one order is T121. I was assigned to the 776TAS from March 67 to July 69. I am trying to get my DD214 corrected. The Air Force did not always track our TDY assignments, thus those CRB and Tuy Hoa rotations didn't make it to the DD214. After a lot of reading and research I have come to realize that most of us that served at CCK and made those trips are missing that very important information. Our VA system won't give you an Agent Orange test/evaluation in less you can prove boots on the ground in Vietnam. Also looking for the following airmen Adley Eisen Doyle Frazer Raymond Ryan fist name? Last name Warren Th…

I was sitting here, and I started looking back at my life and a question came to mind. I now want to ask all a three part question: How many of you have slept on top of a C-130? How many of you have slept in a C-130? How many of you have slept under a c-130? Please tell why and where. Thanks in Advance.

JATO mount points 1 2

On another forum I frequent an aviation nugget discussion is going on. One of the questions was about the number of T-handles on the herk. In the discussion someone asked about the JATO T-handles which in turn question which Herks have them. Some Navy/Marine experienced people seemed to say they had mount points on later Herks. Late model Marine Tankers? I was mostly under the assumption they quit putting them on the Herks with the "H" models but I can't remember if they were there on the FY73 Hs or the FY74 Hs. AFAIK none of the H2s or later had them with the exception of the LCs. Correct?

Roman Nose 1 2

Had lunch today with a few members of my High School graduating class (class of 1963), and it turned out that there was four of us there that are Vietnam Veterans. As the conversation continues I discover that the guy next to me flew (navigator) on KC-135s, became a lifer and finished up in the Wisconsin Air Guard on C-130s. OK, no big deal, until he tells me he flew the last remaining "Roman Nose" 130 into retirement at the Smithsonian in DC. Actually, I guess it's on display just out side DC at Dulles airfield where Smithsonian keeps the BIG stuff. I didn't think top ask him if he remembered the tail number. I'll email him and see if he remembers. Thought this was quite…

Would like any info on a C- 130 ABCCC I was sent to Tan Son Nhut in 1965 as the crew chief. I know it was used as a command ship for the air war and Rolling Thunder. The crew stayed downtown at the Majestic Hotel in Saigon by the river. The aircraft was parked across the runway for the main base. I know the bomb dump was behind us which wasn't a good feeling. Call sign of the aircraft was "Headshed". I was relieved in December 65 by Ken Moser who is a site member and we were assigned to the 314 TCW at Sewart, Tenn. which was moving to CCK Taiwan at the time. Looking for serial number and whatever happened to the bird. Both Ken and I were discharged in 1966 and I know a l…

It is not a Herk but us retirees have to make due with what we can: Just a heads up, I volunteer with the Collings folks out here in Houston, and we are just an engine run away from having our F-4D Phlying again. The bird has been down since 06 when she FOD\'d the #2 engine. The new J79 is in and it looks like we found the last leak (knock on wood) and should be able to get her run up,then up for a FCF. We have her repainted. She is no longer is the paint of Steve Ritchies 463. She now will fly as Robin Old\'s \"Operation Bolo\" aircraft 63-7680. The aircraft will be a tribute to the 8th FW and Robin Olds and also Major Martin who died in 680 when it crashed off th…

A couple of pics from Bobby hunter of 55-0012 derelict at Brooks AFB. Remember the weight and balance computers that never worked. Those and the angle of attack computers that never worked were really good buys. Also the A model refueling panel. Bob

New SEA questions; Somewhere I had the name of the loadmaster on 62-1853 that was shot down at Soc Trang 12 Aug 72. He was the only crew member who survived. Does anyone remember his name? Most of the crew were from the 776 TAS. On 28 Apr 1975 during the Saigon evacuation 72-1297 was destroyed on the ramp at TSN. 72-1297 was a MAC aircraft from Little Rock, but I have seen it in 2 places that it was a 776 AS squadron aircraft. 776 was at Clark at the time so I was wondering if the crew were from 776 or if the 776 thing was a mistake. Thanks Bob

Would like to hear from other members on their dealings with the AF Suggestion Program. In my 21 year career I submitted 2 suggestions, both very, very simple suggestions for the herk, both were disapproved, years later I found that my suggestions were now on other aircraft in other units. First one was on installing 1/4" x1/4" hardware cloth and a hose clamp over the exhaust port of the AWADS cooling fan on the aft side of FS 245 right side. (see thread "sleeping on a herk" post #32) Disapproved , said that the cooling fan exhaust could be rotated 90 degrees, discharging the exhaust into the bulkhead instead of straight down. I submitted this at Rhein-Main. 2 …

I'm not good at putting something visual into words, but here goes. Was leaving back gate at LRAFB today and there she was, beautiful as ever. The lady was turning down wind with left wing tip looking at me and the right wing looking toward heaven. Was just something special, no known reason. The rest of the way home to Gravel Ridge, I thought of pre-flights, BPOs, all day appointment at the wash rack, brake changes, tire changes, TDY memories that will last forever, late night engine runs, and on and on. Do you live near a C-130 base. I would not trade the sounds for anything. Still when the wind is right, I can her purr during engine runs at night. I think i…

October 6, 2009—The keel for the Air Force’s first Special Mission Hercules aircraft was laid in ceremonies at Lockheed Martin’s facilities in Marietta, Ga., on Monday, marking the start of final assembly of this aircraft. This new model of the C-130J Hercules is based on the KC-130J tanker that the company has supplied to the Marines Corps, but with added features like an electro-optic/infrared sensor, enhanced cargo-handling system, and higher capacity generators. The company will build both an HC-130J search-and-rescue variant of this model for Air Combat Command and an MC-130J tanker version for Air Force Special Operations Command right on the standard …

I know most of us has attended a survival school. I went through basic, water, Arctic and the famous jungle one at Clark. I am sure most of us had one are two unusual experiences. I know I did and I thought I would tell it and maybe get some input from the rest of you. Eight of us were sitting a round the campfire at the jungle survival school and we were eating our C rations and a lieutenant did not want his peanut butter so he threw it in the fire a few minutes later it exploded and blew peanut butter all over me. That night we went to sleep on our sleeping mat I believe every rat in the jungle came after me. You remember the Nets we had over us well a rat got under the…
