Hey all. Finally, after two years of the retraining experience I've arrived and completed my initial checkride as a FE! Great feeling, but I know a lot of work remains; however, I'm going to enjoy this little victory! Just thought I would share. Have a good one everyone! Dave

Hi guys, need to know that whats the procedure invogue for passenger boarding and disembarkation in different Airforces around the world. Pricisely, I want to ask about the use of Left or Right PT door. which one is preferred and why. Keep in view power cart, other maintenance guys seeing off the herk, and crew using crew door, all this is happening on the lefrt. so is it not preferable to use the RT PT door !

For what it's worth: There is a lot of conversation concerning individual military records and I just recieved some very interesting records. A few months ago I sent a request to the National Personnal Records Center, Military Personnel Records, 9700 Page Ave., St. Louis MO., 63132-5100, asking for all records they had on me; in fact the words I used were, any piece of paper or document that had my name on it. An amazing amount of paper just arrived. It certainly isn't everything generated by the A.F., but there are a number of documents that are absolutely facinating! My original enlistment papers, several performance evaluations, etc. There is even the personal letter f…

I seen this on the news and thought it was interesting so here is a link to the news video. # 1&2 eng. out landing and then blowing a tire after touch down, Every one one board and plane are ok it sounds like. Not the biggest story but not one that happens all that often. I'm sure many of you guys have some far more harrowing tales. http://www.kgwn.tv/story/22059264/c-130-makes-emergency-landing-at-cheyenne-airport

This may have been discussed before on this board but I searched and did not find any information. I am looking for the Qualifications or guide lines used to award The Air Medal during the Vietnam War. After a recent move my Flight Logs re surfaced. I was never issued any Air Medals while active in the USAF. I can now document the number of Combat missions flown while in the 345th. I am missing my last month of flights in my record. I know I flew 8 leaflet drops in my last in country shuttle. ( Crew Scheduler didn't like me). These are not in my record. But I can document 134 combat missions. Since my retirement I have become active in Veterans groups and my own activitie…

Our company represents Mansfield Aircraft Products - one of the suppliers of the hot beverage jugs for the C-130 galley. The other manufacturer is BE Industries. We sell these jugs to the GSA and are having difficulty figuring out how you guys get them in the field. Do you order from GSA direct? We also repair the existing units even though they semm to be expendable in the NSN system.

Center Wing Box

The availability of new center wing boxes from Lockheed seems to have the fate of many good airplanes in question. I really don\'t think that Lockheed actually builds the center wing box(maybe AVCO-Nashville), but rather, has a casting made by one supplier (to the Lockheed specification, naturally); and then Lockheed may do the machining, ie, drilling holes, grinding or milling surface areas; or they may even sub the machining out to their approved suppliers. The delivery rate is probably set to help control the cost--minimum premium time on the fabrication; standard delivery vs. expedited delivery of materials, etc. In a nutshell, the almighty dollar, controlling …

Hey Guys, I ran across your forum today and decided to join. Thanks for having me! I flew C-130E's in the '60s. Spent a year at CCK in the 50th (1967-1968) and then went back to the 61st at Sewart and moved to Little Rock in 1970. I was an instructor in the school squadron (4442nd) when I got out of the Air Force in 1971. Retired in 2005 after a career in corporate aviation. But I never got over my love affair with the Herk--first love and all that, I guess. What blows my mind is that it is still going strong after all these years with no end in sight. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hey. :)

Spent a few hours at Dover AFB a few weeks ago. They have an H Model don' know the tail No. But got up into the Flight Deck and 20 Years went by. I went through the whole check list. knew every switch and knob by memory. Every time a 130 flys over my house my wife asks if I would still like to be up in that old bird and of course I am way ahead of her. Loved that airplane from the first Roman Nose A's to the last H's I flew and worked on.

Hey, Bob, I just looked at the photos of 0-33131 what's the story about that plane? I notice the Roman nose (erly A model) but how come no external tanks, also looks like the forward cargo door is/was operational. Who owned/flew this piece of history? Brings back memories of my time in the 60's at Naha. If I remember correctly we had one or two there with the roman nose. Muff It spent it's entire time as a test aircraft Mostly as Edwards, went to Sheppard as a maintenance trainer and finally put into the Aeromed training area over by the civilian terminal at Sheppard . I don't know what they are going to do with it since the Aeromed training is going to Camp Bullis. …

I was sent the following pictures through FB with the following caption: U.S. Soldiers with the 731st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, attached to Task Force Vanguard, place explosives on the wings of an unserviceable C-130 Hercules aircraft in order to remove the wings and move the aircraft off the airfield at Forward Operating Base Shank, Logar province, Afghanistan, July 9, 2013. [u.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Elvis Umanzor] I was wondering if anybody knew what happen? Said way to end an aircraft's time.

Got this from Jerry Mitchell. Can anyone identify it? "I recently picked up (at the flea market) a five/sixteenth inch push (ball) pin with attached remove before flight flag (full size) with the following no. on it NAS 1396-20 and MFR 0904 also hand engraved on the side of the Handel G 601 R 101103-1 . I live fairly close to Warner Robins so I would think it came from there. I would think that someone on the site would know what its off of? I'm looking for some help here to solve the mystery" pic attached Bob

Was anyone at CCK to open it in 1966. I arrived in February 1966 and departed February of 1967. I have some pictures of Taichung and several of CCK as buildings were being built. If interested I will post more. I like our old bus stop and the bus to Taichung.

As Skip Davenport has said, "I was in special op's, before special op's was cool!" My sentiments exactly. I was told that my career would be ruined when I went into special operations, and.........really didn't care. It was where I wanted to be, because I was "invited" to come aboard. I have never, nor will I ever regret the experience! Big Blue wants AFSOC to be a command like every other command, and I see great dismay with this outlook; and what is to come. In my humble opinion, AFSOC crews should "pay their dues" and gain experience before APPLYING for an AFSOC assignment. For example: Fixed Wing= 1,500 hrs. in C130 variants. Rotary Wing= 1,000 hrs. Flt. Eng.…

Bobby Hunter has been helping us trying to clear up Herk sightings in San Antonio. Here is some of what he found. Brooks City Base 63-7805 sitting outside is an Aeromed trainer in good shape. 62-1860 also an Aeromed trainer but inside a building at Brooks. Both of these herks are supposed to move to Wright Patt as AF moves to get out of Brooks and bring more training to WP. 63-7805 is still listed as stored at the Boneyard, but I think there are only a few pieces there. Lackland-Kelly 64-0519 on flight line trainer for IAAFA 59-1531 on Medina Base was a trainer for IAAFA now a trainer for the new Enlisted Aircrew School. Camp Bullis 55-0048 an Air Base defe…
