I am continuing in my research project of 'A' models that once were assigned to the 118th/105th TAW (TNANG) in Nashville. I am looking for any additional information I can find on 56-0484. Here is what I have thus far: This aircraft was converted to a C-130A-II at one time, and then back to a C-130A by 1972. At the time of the conversion to the C-130A-II, she was assigned to the 7506th Support Squadron at Rhein-Mein, Germany. The 7506th was a reconnaissance squadron with quite a bit of history. I was looking up some stuff for Hush on his Berlin for Lunch Bunch and then talking with Tiny Clark about the 62 models and came up with a question. Back in the early 70\'s the USAF started dumping its most beat up E\'s on the Guard and Reserve. The 62\'s and any real doggy 63\'s and 64\'s they had. The Guard and the Reserve fixed them up and now the USAF is getting them all back. The only Guard units with E\'s are the PRANG and LRF and the Reserve has none. Anyhow my question is, there were 6 62 models not counting ABCCC that did not go to the ARF. Three were former MEAFSA later Jackpot later Berlin E\'s later Pacer Coin 62-1819,1822,1828. I was at my local Vietnam Veterans of America chapter house today, and a guy brought in a drawing of a C-130, with WV ANG markings on it, and had listed the names of the crew members lost in the crash of the Martinsburg bird in '92. Could not believe it was that long ago. I was takin' flying lessons at the time, and one of the Cessnas I flew belonged to the father of the copilot who was lost in that crash, if my memory serves me right. That crashed occurred about forty miles or less from where I live. Quite a tragedy.... Giz

That was a neat dis-cussin on the rocket attack on Herky Hill a couple of posts ago and I sure enjoyed it! I went to CRB on google earth and saw a lot of what I thought I remembered. There are all kinds of markers by the VN and ruskies but only one marker by a GI and it was the 22nd Replacement Batt. If someone with a still functioning brain could go there on google earth and mark the sites I know a lot of us would get a kick out of seeing it. Places such as the C-130 revetments, C-7 parking, Aerial port building, maint buildings and tire shop near the flightline, also the sharp curve at the 22nd Replacement Batt at the bottom of Herky Hill seems to have changed.(I was th…

I have posted these before, but they have long since disappeared and now that there are a lot of new members on the forum, especially old Naha guys, I thought I would post them again with hopes you will find yourself or somebody you recognize in them!! These pics were taken in November 1968 ( I'm pretty sure!!). If you were in the 35th during that time you should recognize Msgt. Andy Haskell and Msgt. Galloway. (Flight Chief & 1st. Sgt.) !! I do know a lot of the names and there are some I can't remember--maybe we can help each other out and identify them all. A friend of mine runs a website ( http://dstorm.eu/ ) dedicated to the airwar part of Operation Desert Storm. On his website he tries to get complete lists of every aircraft that has taken part along with images and extra information where possible. While he does have a list of some of the Spectres that took part in the war he's not sure if the list is complete and he's always looking for more info. Does anyone remember the rocket attack on Herky Hill in Jan. of 1970.The rocket hit the chow hall but Charlie was aiming at the yellow parachute we put up on our "deck". The AP's came and tore it down. There were some injured in the chow hall. If anyone can remember the date it would help.Thanks JP

my father msgt fredrick l stryker was a crew chief stationed @ naha who we joined early 68 as dependent children,remember going to naha afb as a boy,found civilian i.d. of my dad ,refused to discuss what he did. he won title of airman of the year pacific and recieved a trip to tokyo etc. around 1968-9. he did mention flare drops,he did not like them. does any one have any info on the beeliners 21 first tas? does anyone remember him? any info would be appreciated. cliff stryker

I was watching Moon Machines this norning on the Science Channel and L-100 (4101) N920NA delivered the first lunar rover to NASA. The fist lunar rover was flown on Apollo 15. 4101 led a storied life. Another thread here prompted a memory. When I was at Pope I remember a picture (think it was at 3rd Aerial Port) of a big ball of metal that used to be a tank. The story was that it happened during a LAPES on Bragg someplace, no chutes or a "bad bounce" or something similar. Anyone have any memory of this? It was around the 73-75 time frame.

A few years back, I donated my coin to a friend's (Keith Saunders) retirement shadow box thinking I had another coin squirreled away somewhere. Well, after searching through my stash of coins, various - I realize that I don't have a spare. Specifically, I'm looking for the coin we used sometime in '93-94 when I was there (yep, a short time). It said, "50th TAS / ALS / AS or whatever you want to call us" on one side and had a list of aircraft around the edge of the other. Of course, it had the Red Devil emblazoned on one side as well. Let me know if anyone has an extra they'd be willing to part with...it's time for my shadow box.
