Hi Fellow Herky Jerkers, I'm really happy to be back. I never really went anywhere except to the hospitals and to the Happy Hunting Grounds 4 times. Briefly, I've had some nasty surgeries, The 5 way coronary bypass, the partial foot amputation for gangerene, and 4 fatal heart attacks resulting in an ICD implant. The little machine in my chest is doing the trick and I'm almost my old self again. I was somewhat of a specialty in the hospital because when they prepped me for the surgery they found out that I had been dead 3 times at home. We thougt that I was passing out and my wife revived me all 3 times by pouring ice water on me and beating on my chest and back. …

Please share this with anyone who\'s had active duty service prior to January 202 and planning for retirement. In a nutshell it boils down to this: You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your military service, for active duty anytime from 1940 through 2001 (the program was done away with in January 2002). Up to $1200.00 per year of earnings credit credited at time of application - which can make a substantial difference in social security monthly payments upon your retirement. You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office - and you must ask for this benefit to receive it! http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm

It was a longer than ususal road - I had a few bumps at LRAFB, including having to come home for my wife's surgery (she's fine) - but I made it back there, finished the course, and had my cert board today (with another FE from my squadron). I'm a little nervous, still wonder if they picked the right guy, but will treat this responsibility with the respect it deserves. The scheduler already has me flying with a student next week. Whoo! Thanks to all the guys who supported me, and I won't let you down. Mark

Early last Saturday morning Kevin Gaffney passed away at West Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia. After retirement he became a C-130 flight engineer simulator instructor at Dobbins ARB and settled in this area. Nearly 10 years ago he was diagnosed with cancer and has fought that battle ever since. In one of his last emails he said he had a GOD given talent for tenacity. Everyone around him knew how true that statement was, as I have never known anyone as determined and strong willed as Kevin in his long battle against this terrible desease. He will be surely missed.
