I just read a blub on Military.com about our cannon boys failing to refuel a -8 resulting in the -8 crashing. Was this the Wombats? If so when did we become fixed wing certified? Does anybody know anything more about this? Dan http://www.military.com/news/article/report-failure-to-refuel-caused-crash.html?wh=news&ESRC=airforce-a.nl

"A Different Christmas Poem" The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when …

Does anyone have or know where I can get a copy of this "interview"? I had a copy but it "vanished" when I PCSd from Germany. For those not in the know; it's a supposed interview of an F-4C pilot, in Vietnam and an American newsman with an Air Force PR man present to translate the Captains answers into the "company line". Always enjoyed it and I'm sure many younger troops would too. Thanks in advance.

This is one of my favorite movies and as I was watching it again the other night I wondered if they still used it in any of the NCO Leadership or Academy courses? I know they were using it when I was still in but perhaps it's too "dated" for use now.

I found this while surfing the web. Mike Flight Safety The Provisional Regulations (Foulois, 1911) only devote two pages to Flying Rules. However, they are extremely safety-oriented, as these samples show: "FLYING RULES. Never land with the wind blowing from behind the machine, as one is liable to underestimate the additional speed, and be carried into obstructions on the ground, which generally results in a wreck. Learn to know when the engine sounds right. Never attempt sensational or dangerous evolutions with the machine while in flight. Never fly in column with other machines at distances less than 400 yards between machines. Never fly …

I'm trying to find anyone, that was in the 774 TAS during 1971 and 1972, that has a copy of Air Crew "BLANKET FLYING ORDERS" for SEA, that has my name on it and the rest of the Squadron's name on it too, just for a keep-sake item. Would like to have a copy e mailed to me. Actually, wouldn't mind hearing from anyone I was stationed with over at Clark AB. Would like to hear from anyone, on the Air Crew, the day I fell out of the back of crew transport pick-up, at Cam Rahn Bay AB, RVN. I was the FE.

Found an excellent shooting range here, probably the best range I have seen in a long time. Its run by the conservation folks, its public and FREE to use (thank God I get something for all these taxes here in IN). It was a nice day, warmed up and was about 33 or 34 and sunny and we had a great time!!

A Soldier Comes Home On July 5, The Post published a letter from Martha Gillis of Springfield, whose nephew, Lt. Brian Bradshaw, was killed in Afghanistan on June 25, the day that Michael Jackson died. The letter criticized the extensive media coverage of Jackson's death compared with the brief coverage of Lt. Bradshaw's death. Among the responses was the following letter, written July 9 by an Air National Guard pilot and a fellow member of the crew that flew Lt. Bradshaw's body from a forward base in Afghanistan to Bagram Air Base. Capt. James Adair, one of the plane's pilots, asked the editorial page staff to forward the letter to the Bradshaw family. He and Brian Br…

I'm going to be retiring in a little over a year after 20-odd years in maintenance. I'm interested in AFETS--does anyone know how to go about becoming an AFETS guy?

2/17/2010 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The first woman to serve as major general in the Air Force, and the Department of Defense, passed away Feb. 15. Retired Maj. Gen. Jeanne M. Holm is credited as the single driving force in achieving parity for military women and making them a viable part of the mainstream military. The Portland, Ore., native attained the rank of two-star general in 1973 after a career that began 31 years earlier in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army. General Holm entered Women's Army Air Corps in January 1943 where she received a commission as third officer, the WAAC equivalent of second lieutenant. General Holm also became the first woman to atten…

Some of the guys I know are deepwater drillers, here is a good rant on whats going on now and who's to blame. AMERICANS FOR OFFSHORE DRILLING: PATRIOTIC RESISTANCE: I am dependent on Ultra-Deepwater Drilling for my income. The shutdown of Ultra-Deepwater Drilling is an unfair attack on the petroleum industry. British Petroleum Americas (B.P.) failure to perform their drilling operation in a safe manner is your issue. We as an industry are aware of the many B.P. failures on the Transocean Deepwater Horizon. The 11 Men that lost their lives are our brothers. Unsafe well practices by B.P. must be investigated. The root cause is a failure to resolve a poor …

I've be browsing the web site www amervets dot com. Some pretty good information. I filled out some info and they sent me a listing of awards and decs that I probably qualify for. In the listing I saw only 2 that I might qualify for, Air Force Training (Accession) and Cold War ribbons. Not sure but I just might use their form and send them in. A few others I might have to research more. Is there a place when you can research awards for particular units, projects, or other support? I provided some support for the Yon Kipper War in '73 while at Wright-Patterson. There was something like a 900 series manual that listed unit awards but it was in an office on base. …

Here's a joke I heard back in 90 when I was a fresh FNG on the flightline: note: this joke applies to any branch,so I'll give you the AF version. 3 Generals and an Admiral are sitting around a campfire, each bragging about which branch has more balls, the army gen cant stand it anymore and sees a soldier walking and by and calls him over and says, "soldier, I want you to run out on the battlefield and kill me 150 tanks and bring me back 1500 POW's!" The gen turns to the others and says see?The marine gen goes, "that aint sh#t!" and when he sees a marine walk by, he says, "marine, run out on the battlefield and kill me 250 tanks and bring me back 2500 POW"s!" so then he l…

http://crabbyoldfart.wordpress.com/ While I am not that old - I do appreciate and pretty much agree to most of the things presented. I have been reading this blog for a while now and am still not sure if the individual is real. Having to press ANYTHING for customer service sets me right off.
