Published: May 3, 2013 The Associated Press BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan — The emergencies ministry in Kyrgyzstan says a U.S. military plane has crashed in the country. Kyrgyzstan hosts a U.S. base that is used for troops transiting into and out of Afghanistan and for C-135 tanker planes that refuel warplanes in flight. A ministry official who did not give his name said the plane crashed Friday afternoon near the village of Chaldovar, about 100 miles (160 kms) west of the base. The head of the region that includes Chaldovar, Kuralbek Khamaliyev, told The Associated Press by telephone that the plane broke into three pieces when it crashed into an uninhabited area. The U.…

Just received my order for this key chain. About 5" long. Even though the site is more of a rotary engine site (like it cars), it has a number of these items. http://www.rotary13b1.com/c/remove-before-flight.html

Butler SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. - Colonel Jeannie Leavitt, Base Commander and first female fighter pilot in the U.S., extends a public invitation to attend the Wings Over Wayne Air Show at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro. Although the Herc is my first love, I find the B-52 a fascinating airplane. I was a crew chief on one for about 6 months at KI Sawyer AFB, Michigan. It was not a maintenance-friendly airplane. In this month's American Legion magazine, there is an article about the airplane. In it, the author says that "the B-52 is expected to remain in service until at least 2045. That's 93 years after its first flight." He also says "Executives at Boeing ..... have said that the crews that will fly the B-52 into the boneyard haven't been born yet." That's freekin' amazing!!! One of the things I used to stress on check rides was situational awareness. I'd take the airways chart from the pilot and hand it to the FE and ask him to point to where we were. A few had no idea; which brings me to the point of this post. Last Friday afternoon, a McGuire C-17 landed at Peter O. Knight airport which has a 3,580' runway. It was supposed to land at MacDill AFB's 11.421' runway. The airplane stopped with the nosewheel a few feet short of the end of the runway and, since the 100' wide runway was too narrow to turn around, they backed down the entire runway. It had 23 passengers and 19 crewmembers. Was no one looking outside? The runways have basically…

SALT LAKE CITY -- Once a Cold War-era submarine attack plane, the Lockheed P2V has for years been both a mainstay of the nation's aerial firefighting arsenal and a cause for concern.Flying in the turbulent, unforgiving skies above raging wildfires, the planes have crashed at least seven times from either mechanical problems or pilot error, causing 16 deaths, dating back to 1990 when they were slowly added to the nation's firefighting fleet. http://www.kansascity.com/2012/06/03/3640346/air-tanker-crash-kills-2-at-utah.html http://www.firehouse.com/news/10726438/ntsb-firefighting-plane-heavily-fragmented-in-crash Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2012/06/…

Was watchin' Flying in Alaska, and saw a short bit that showed a C-124 doin' an airdrop, sorta looked like CDS pallets, couldn't tell for sure. Looked like it was coming out behind the rear of the wing. I Think the 124 had some sort of elevator there??? I only saw an Old Shaky a few times,, mostly remember how their brakes squealed. anyway, I hope somebody out there can fill me in on the drop. I had no idea they could do that. An inquiring mind wants to know.............. Giz

Here's an owl coming in for the kill... right at the camera... only a minute long. The last two or three seconds are amazing, watching the feathers ruffle and the wings swell. See the trailing flaps go down, the rudder correct for displacement from center line, the leading edge devices deploy, the landing gear extend. Interesting to watch the corrections in the flight path as the bird comes in. Seems to be a cross-wind from his right. This is taken at 1000 frames per second. http://www.dogwork.com/owfo8 Don R.

All, Been playing around in Afghanistan the past few months with this G-222 (C-27A) aircraft. Got me a good APU problem that may translate well from some of your Herc APU/GTC experiences. This APU will run just fine, loaded, unloaded, for roughly 5 top 10 minutes, then abruptly shut down. This happens either in flight, or on the ground. I have eliminated the Oil Pressure Switch, the Hot Oil Temp Switch, the Speed Switch, the Ignition Control Unit, and the fuel filter. Cracking Pressure I would assume is fine as it starts smoothly, and doesn't "burp" or appear to be struggling for fuel before shutdown. I do not have a gauge available to verify though. …

Thru out my career in Life Support I was assigned duties making the custom fit foam liners for aircrew helmets. The chemicals contained isocyanates. ( Same as the early spray foam insulation for building construction. ) The aircrew members had limited exposure, but the LS tech's were exposed to 2 to 5 or more pours in a day. Biomedical always claimed the was no hazard.

Just read an article in the local paper written by Tom Philpott for Military Update. Seems as though that Reservists flying or maintaining post war AGENT ORANGE C-123's have been dealing with those symptos associated with AGENT ORANGE. An old crewmen has started a blog on the subject: http://www.c123kcancer.blogspot.com/ Bad stuff for the old aircrews. Bob

The 2011 Open House will take place, rain or shine, on June 4 and 5, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event, dubbed "Your Wing, Your Neighbours", will include multiple static displays of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton’s diverse fleet of aircraft and multiple ground displays by the numerous non-flying units on base. No air show this year, but static aircraft from all seven 8 Wing squadrons will be on display and guided tours of the aircraft will be offered to the public. For more information visit: http://www.cfbtrenton.com/openhouse Unfortunately I won't be able to attend as I will be attending ceremonies in Normandy. However, there are nine J-model Herks with 436…
