hercmech14
I have a question on the 3 bladed prop. What was the diameter of the prop and did it run a the same speed and torque as the 4 blade model?
herktowhale
The three bladed (Aero-products?) prop was a little bit bigger in diameter than the four bladed Hamilton Standard and it ran at a slower RPM when installed on the T56A-9. I think the RPM was 1016. I can not recall the diameter.
GVS
Diameter of \"A\" model 3 blade prop - 15 feet.
Ballsofire
Early A\'s ran 12.5 to 1 rgb\'s with a prop speed of 1,105rpm. Later models ran at 13.54 to one and a prop speed of 1,015rpm.
SEFEGeorge
With the higher speeds is that when the 3-bladed props started slinging blades?
RZHill
No the blade failures were actually hub failures, fatique cracks. Got so bad that the props were limited to 25 hours between inspections Kinda rough on the guys on the ski caps. RZ Hill
stoney
It was actually a spald (very small crack) in the blade race. I was stuck in Europe with the only active duty A model, in the 70\'s. We had 3 prop changes with only 1 spare. Stoney
SEFEGeorge
I didn\'t necessarily mean blade failures. I was just asking if the faster blade RPM contributed to the props loosing blades.
Rich
In the early 80s waiting for four good XY 3 bladed props got to be an exercise in patience.
