Rear MLS Antenna

It's actually the second part that Mike Bischoff has down there. They jacked up the part number in the -4, Fig 22, Ind 260. What's a few misplaced dashes and a missing 0?

Waste of money though, and I am not making this up, but the rear antenna is never used, as it is for Back Az only. The only Airport in the US that has back az for MLS is in Atlantic City. The mobile MLS stations are not back az capable.

This fact makes it all the more funny that they built a radome to protect the antenna. Many of the antennas had to be reordered because of the late 90's "radome design fiasco", since they were misplaced when removed due to breaking off. So I'm thinking it probably cost half a million dollars or so to fix something that is of no use.

There is one on base in Minn/St.Paul FB6231, warehouse location 01A013B047A, and they're only $3800.

I'd have to agree, MLS is a redundant system now that GPS has become the almighty king! MLS is useless weight that should have been removed a long time ago.

TERMINAL ITEM # (NON-STOCKED ITEMS) FUTURE PROCUREMENT IS NOT AUTHORIZED. NO WHOLESALE STOCK IS AVAILABLE FOR ISSUE. 1. REQUISITIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED TO THE WHOLESALE MANAGER. 2. INTERNAL SERVICE/AGENCY REQUISITIONING MAY BE CONTINUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SERVICE/AGENCY REQUISITIONING POLICIES.

It can still be ordered, as assets are available, one being at MN-StPaul. See note 2 and point it out to your "supply CUSTOMER SERVICE" people.

The system is FMC without the antenna, unless you are doing touch and goes at the FAA test facility in Atlantic City.

I tried to raise the BS flag on this when they talked about makimg a radome cover for it, but no one wanted to listen. Then I got into Sadism, Necrophilia and Beastiality, but soon realized I was just beating a dead horse.

Great. Then what should happen is that every C-130 in the inventory should go up to Atlantic City for 3-4 days for total system testing. This will be at least once a year, and consist of two flight crews (in case of DNIF issues), 2 crew chiefs, and a Comm/Nav specialist. I mean, if we're going to piss money away, let's not do a half-assed job, let's GIT 'ER DONE!!

Maybe I can get a trip in before I retire next month...

"......I was just beating a dead horse."

Tiny-

Or were you beating maggots off of a dead horse?

Sounds as though the supply folks were in the mindset of "the computer says......"

I guess common sense doesn't prevail in all situations.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Cheers

Bob
