Sudan

Sudan doesn\'t seem to be a popular tourist destination these days, but,

I was sent this picture of 4 Sudan AF Herks parked at Khartoum in Mar 2007.

It mentioned 1102, 1103, 1104, and maybe 1105

I looked at Google Earth and the picture looks the same 15 36 04.07N 32 32 42.80E

This contradicts Lars\' book in which he has 5 Sudanese Herk losses out of 6 bought.

May 11 1987

Feb 08 1990

Jul 25 1992

Feb 26 1996

Jun 03 1999

Can anyone straighten this out?

Thanks

Bob

donwon,

Yep, it\'s most likely a scrapyard. The majority of the ramps at African airports have aviation junkyards there. Check out on Google Earth these coordinates. 8 51 11.02S 13 13 41.72E That\'s the international airport in Luanda, the capitol of Angola. And, yes, just south of runway 07 is a derelict C-130A.

Hi Bob

My connection did talk to an ex Flight Engineer from the Sudan Air frorce and according to him the Hercs are totally U/S some of them without engines. The last time he was operating in an Herc was in 1991. He was trained in America and got 10 000Hrs on Herc\'s, AN12 and the AN26. He is now working for the UN. Will try and get more info, that\'s all I could get for now.

Zaherk.
