SEFEGeorge
Just watched a show on the Military Channel on the gunships. Pretty damn cool, even though i've seen it a few times. Just curious though, didn't know that they had H model gunships in Vietnam, circa 1972. For those that are interested, in 1969 I was at WPAFB, in ASD-AFSC, and we cut up foam and packed the wings on an A model. Never thought to get the tail number but we did it in a hanger in Area B. Blackmac_Project
If I remember right they were actually AC-130E's at that point. Wonder if the bean counters ever found out they weren't actually H's that they would lump them in with the rest of the E's they are so despirately trying to get rid of....... MC-130E's come to mind. SonnyJ
I watched that last night too. Great show. Did you see the barrels glowing red on the AC-47 during the first part of the show? I didn't know the USAF turned over the AC-47's to the Vietnamese.
Spectre623
Yes Sonny, they turned over all the AC-47s and I beleve all the AC-119s along with about 18 C-130A's with several BLU-82s (15000 lb) bombs that the SVN used pretty well. Sam M. isn't there documentation on one bomb drop by SVN that killed about 100 or more NVA ? Bill
gmat
It might have been 1626, the prototype or 490 which I believe was the Surprise Package prototype and would have been tested at WPAFB. Best wishes, Grant
