Bill Miller
Yea, in the picture it appears that #3 prop is feathered.
mc130fe
And that they are pretty empty on fuel...look at the up-bending wings.
ArcticHerc
from the stories we hear, these folks have an interesting job to say the least. Sounds like fun times, with a few hair raising experiences every so often... AH
DC10FE
Another photo ruined by that extremely annoying airliners.net watermark. Don R.
ArcticHerc
You can actually buy the rights to the photos from the photographers in most cases which gives you the original photo without the watermark. We do it often if the photo can be used for promo.
Plaprad
What are those little black dots in front of the APU and Deflector door?
mongo
What are those little black dots in front of the APU and Deflector door? Windows. unless your seeing something I'm not. (and it does happen!)
jrkaegi
Windows that are black out.
SEFEGeorge
I think he means near the front and aft of the gear fairing.
loadsmith
It sort of looks like defensive system sensors. Although not in the normal spot for a Herk the angle of them would seem to be something along those lines. Just my uneducated guess.
mongo
Cant say I see anything besides windows blacked or not. I think the black dot mentioned in front of the deflector door is just a hinge point for the deflector door. But ya know, I have not been on or close to a Herk in about 20 + - a few years. things do change!
mongo
Ok now that I put on my specticals and lookat it on a big monitor, I can see what you mean. But, not a clue what they are. maybe its simply lighting for the door areas. seems the blisters or bubbled areas are pointing fore and aft at the dor areas. DC10FE
Interesting. Those black dots are not on earlier photos I have of that airplane. I was going to suggest going to the gallery, but all the photos of 4796 are missing -- along with 4798 & 4799. I agree with loadsmith -- they look like some sort of defensive sensors, although they are in unusual locations. Don R.

tinyclark
I don't ever recall seeing a SATCOM antenna installed backwards either. Maybe it's a special type, or someone eff'd up.
SonnyJ
I haven't been really paying attention but I it appears there isn't a paratroop door on the aircraft.
T56MX
L-382's do not have paratroop door's I think.
bobdaley
I found 3 additional Herks, being used by Tepper
bobdaley
Now registered N3796B, I have not found a picture of it with its new registration.
bobdaley
These are the only ones that I have heard that Tepper currently operates. They are all registered according to the FAA different names, same address in Wilmington DE. They werre all recently reregistered and one guess as to why is that they have been reportedly used on rendition flights. Rumor of course! Dan Wilson
I would be my next social security check on those thangs being some kind of countermeasure sensors. As to the paratroop doors, Tepper has (or had I think) one 382 and two E models but I did hear rumors about another plane going to them, maybe thats the 382 because I thought they has three E models originally. Oh, and they seem to change their paint jobs like they change their underwear, I think they must use shelf paper they change so often. Usually when I see em they are just white.
