Guest
I had the opportunity to sit in the center escape hatch for a JATO take off at the Dayton Air Show in 1997. I'm sad to see the tradition die. http://www.navytimes.com/news/2009/10/marine_blue_angels_jato_102909w/

Dave in WV
Several years ago we (130th AG) were in the same wing with the NY ANG C-130D unit at Schenectady,NY. Their commander came to our unit and gave us a briefing about their mission. He told us the JATO bottles being used were ones left from production in the 60's and they were having to mix and match them for the ice cap missions then and that was over 20 years ago. There was no plan for producing more.
ang012
I know on the H3 we didn't have the connector or the brackets on the air deflector doors for the bottles.
Plaprad
They got rid of the system on H1's, then late H2's they started putting IRCM in that spot.

Procedurally they do not light the bottles unless they can get the nose ski off the ground/ice. I flew with them too but only as an observer/examiner. Although I was qualified on the LCs I was not mission qualified.
Dave in WV
I went through Altus for fixed wing performance at the same time Mike Christiano went through. He is/was their chief engineer the last I heard.
