Simmons, Sr. of Beebe (Opal community), Arkansas, was born May 9, 1933 at Meridian, Mississippi, and went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2009. Mr. Simmons was retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving twenty-three years. He was also retired from Franklin Electric and Ward Bus Factory. He was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his father and mother, Reese and Alene Simmons of Mississippi; a sister, Gail Koppenol of Louisiana and a son, Robert Simmons of Arkansas. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-four years, Patricia; and four children, Susan Simmons, Catherine (Jerry) Holland, Mary (Steve) Colburn, and Delano O. (Kathy) Simmons, all of Beebe. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, Corey Simmons, Shawna Conyers, Kristina Simmons, Andrea Hinds, Kyle Holland, Patricia Burdette, Melinda Holland, Bobby Simmons, Kasey Colburn, Joshua Holland, Christopher Simmons, Robert J. Simmons and Joseph Simmons; and six great-grandchildren. He has one surviving sister, Ann Shultz of Meridian, Mississippi; one aunt, Nell McMahan of Mississipi; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.
