Don,

Read about LAIRCM here:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/systems/laircm.htm

The fairings are on each side between the paratroop doors and the stab (about where the "stars and bars" are). There are also some added "horns" over the cockpit and beaver tail.

Found these photos using The Google:

First Herky J" Model for Dyess rolls out of the paint shop at Maritta Ga.

there reciveing 28 next two years.

OK, gotta know. What's the purpose of the small protrusions, one just forward of the left emerg. escape hatch and the other aft of FS 757. Think there is a matching set on the right side also. Was hoping if I hung around long enough some other dummy would ask. But guess I'm that dummy.:D Keep in mind a new acft. for me a 74.

LAIRCM is on their 5th PM since Cappelano retired.

Where will they go?

I suspect the non LAIRCM birds go to AETC and the LAIRCM birds to an AMC Sq at the Rock.

Are you talking about the black/white striped area forward of the escape hatch and under the "stars and bars" - about 3' long? If so, that is the NVG compatible formation strip lighting. I believe this originally was a request from AFSOC for the MC/HC, but LMCO made it standard in the late 90's on all Herks - just about the time the last H3's/first J's are rolling out. It's on both sides of the aircraft and the tail. Although the black stripe might look like a shadow, these lights are flush with the aircraft skin.

Hah, talk about an ill thought out (or not thought out at all) modification that screws you up if your on NVG's.

We found that out way back when on 217 (MC-P), the initial SOFI mod bird.

Whoever was behind you would keep bitching about "you need to turn up your formation lights", well the knob will only turn as far as it will turn.

Think it out, NVG Compatible, in other words, a light the will NOT interfere with goggles and to refine it a little more YOU CANT SEE EM ON GOGGLES:rolleyes:

First thing that would happen when we got a bird back from mod would be putting the Lunar White lenses back on the wings and ditching the green lenses.
