I just read a blub on Military.com about our cannon boys failing to refuel a -8 resulting in the -8 crashing.

Was this the Wombats? If so when did we become fixed wing certified? Does anybody know anything more about this?

Report: Failure to Refuel Caused Crash

April 12, 2010

Knight Ridder/Tribune

Human error was ruled in a November crash involving a Cannon Air Force Base crew and aircraft in Mali.

According to information from the Air Force Association, and confirmed by the public affairs office of Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla., an aircrew from Cannon's 524th Special Operations Squadron failed to refuel its DHC-8/Q200 transport.

The plane, valued at $7 million, was being used in a mission from Nouakchott, Mauritania, to Bamako Mali, on Nov. 19, 2009.

According to a report from the Air Force Association, one of the six passengers suffered severe injuries and the crew, along with the other passengers, suffered at least minor injuries.

The plane was a total loss.

Don Arias of AFSOC's public affairs office said information about the crew's condition was not available, and there is no word on if or how the crew will be disciplined.

"The investigation is complete," Arias said. "The disposition of the crew is not. The decisions haven't been made on what their fates may be."

The report was not filed as of Friday afternoon on the Air Force's Accident Investigation Boards Web site.

The DHC-8 is a de Havilland Canada regional airliner. The USAF has 2 based at Tyndall AFB with the military designation of E-9A. They are 100 series airplanes with side looking radar.

I don't know what the military designation of the Q200 is, although I would imagine it's a 200 series -8.

Not a Wombat...

No tanker involved....think you misunderstood the story...read this part again.... "an aircrew from Cannon's 524th Special Operations Squadron failed to refuel its DHC-8/Q200 transport. " focus on AIRCREW and ITS.....

$hit happens......thankfully no fatalities

Ahhhh

That put a whole new light on the matter!!

Thanks for the brain redirect:D

Didn't Know that AFSOC even had any -8's, but main question is how do you forget to gas your jet before you fly? Thats pretty bad!!
