Clod
I am looking for a TAD (early 70s if possible). I did a Google search which turned me on to the Herky Birds site! Now I can't locate the thread discussion on TADs!! Anyone have one or a contact? Thanks! Clod:confused:
Dan Wilson
mmm, could you tell me what a TAD is? I know that's the Army way of saying TDY but not sure if that's what your asking or not. Dan
DC10FE
I think the Navy uses TAD for TDY, too -- although I doubt that's what Clod is referring to. TAD = Travellin' Around Drunk." Don R.
Fleagle
Standing by for just what "TAD" is - don't recall that between the `79 - `05 window. I do like that "traveling around drunk" as well as "Alcoholics Moving Cargo" I'd pay for that patch! Fleagle
JimH
Well, if you're a Reservist, it used to mean "Temporary Active Duty"... Jim H
Clod
Gentlemen, The TAD or Tactical Airdrome Directory was a booklet about the size of the US approach plate books. It had an airfield diagram and/or picture of every field in South Vietnam and the fields were listed by name and by "Victor" number. Very useful when you were being diverted! INS/Dopplertroop
Colonel, My google search turned up a few pages only. www.c-7caribou.com had pages for Cam Ranh, Phu Cat, Vung Tau www.theboxcar.org had Chu Lai and Kham Duc One of this sites members mentioned having scanned in his copy of a 70's TAD. That was on and older thread. I believe the name was Ray Roddy from Troy, AL.

Skip Davenport
Tactical Air Directory -- a VFR version of IRF approach places. It was printed with brown ink and gave a TACAN DME/Radial to a LZ then a description of the runway and terrain in the area. :)
donwon
I remember sitting at the nav table looking at those things, now that I know what it is. I think one was on the plane for every military runway in the US, while I was at Sewart. When we went to Clark we had them for different areas. Ray
I made a pdf of the last issue of the Tactical Aerodrome Directory a couple of years ago. The file is too big to email, but I'll be glad to make a CD for you. I can also put the Air America Lima Site Directory on there too. I have a huge amount of documents and records from that era - probably around 80-100,000 pages of stuff. Most of it was research data for my book.
