2012 Troop Carrier/Tactical Airlift Assoc Convention in Warner Robins, GA, Oct 19-21

Recommended Posts

The TCTAA board decided this afternoon at our teleconference to set a definite date for our 2012 Convention for October 19-12, 2012 at Warner Robins, Georgia, with events at the Mueum of Aviation adjactent to Robins AFB. This is the weekend after the Hercule Operators Conference in Marietta and the week before another Hercules conference in Jacksonville, Florida. It's also the weekend after the Air Commando and Stray Goose reunions in Ft. Walton Beach.

The TCTAA is an umbrella organization for all Army Air Forces and USAF troop carrier and tactical airlift units and their successors. Our new chairman, George Dockery, and president, Mike Welch, are leading us as we make a major effort to recruit all troop carrier/tactical airlift veterans to join us. We are a 501C (19) veterans organization and are recognized by the IRS as a wartime veteran's association and all donations are tax deductible. For membership info and information on the upcoming reunion, visit our web site at www.troopcarrier.org.

Planning for the convention is coming right along and we're getting a lot of interest. So far, we've got almost 70 names of people who have indictated they are considering attending. Tom Stalvey, loadmaster from Sewart and Clark, lives outside Atlanta and is doing the leg work. Lockheed has invited us to come up to the factory for a tour one day. Check out www.troopcarrier.org for details and to see the names of those who have expressed an interest in attending. If you'd like to come and your name isn't already there, drop me a note at [email protected] and I'll add it.

The registration packets which include a registration form and a membership form as well as information are now on the TCTAA web site at www.troopcarrier.org/convention.html. The convention starts on October 17 and runs through October 21. We'll be going up to Marietta to Lockheed on Friday, the 19. Total cost is $160.00 for members, $120.00 for spouses and $185.00 for non-members, which includes breakfast Thursday-Sunday and lunch Thursday and Saturday as well as the reception on Thursday evening and the banquet on Saturday. Non-members have the option of joining and paying the member rate (the cost is still the same.) We're looking forward to a great event!

Registration forms are coming in nearly every day. The registration packet and the registration forms are posted on www.troopcarrier.org/convention.html. If you plan to go to Marietta to visit Lockheed-Martin, we need certain information (posted on the page) as soon as possible to turn into Lockheed for security. They need the info by September 1. Tom Stalvey and Roger Greuel are doing a fantastic job putting everything together.

Check www.troopcarrier.org/convention.html to see who's registered for the event in Warner Robins in October. So far, we've got about 40 registrants, including spouses and guests. Those who would like to visit the Lockheed/Martin factory need to get their information to Roger Greuel by mid-August as it needs to go to LM's security department. They need full name, date and place of birth, address and employer. Anyone who is not a US citizen also has to provide their passport number and state of issuance. We're getting a good representation of units and bases with a number of maintenance people as well as aircrew. The agenda is to arrive on Wednesday, October 17, have out meeting and presentations on Thursday with the reception that evening, travel to Marietta by rented coach (mandatory per Lockheed) on Friday, memorial service Saturday morning with the banquet that evening. This is a great opportunity to see old friends and make new ones. Warner Robins is just off of I-75 on the way to Florida. They have a really great museum with several C-130s, including a former Tachikawa A-model incorporated into the main building.

I'd like to remind everyone that it's still not too late to register for this years event. The official cutoff date to get the TCTAA rates at the hotels is September 17; after that, rates are based on room availability. We do need information for Lockheed Martin for those who want to visit the factory in Marietta on Friday. That information needs to be submitted ASAP. Check www.troopcarrier.org/convention.html for details and to see who is planning to be there. We're expecting a pretty good turnout.

We had a really good turnout in Warner Robins last week, with approximately 60 people in attendance. We had aircrew maintenance, operations and aerial port people there. Nearly everyone was C-130 at one time or another, with several going back to the 1950s. Tom Stalvey and Roger Greuel did a good job putting everything together, with a lot of help from Roger's wife Janet. We're in the process of deciding where to have the next one in 2014. Tucson has been suggested. Check www.troopcarrier.org/convention.html to see who was there.
