Governor Rick Perry and the C-130

I had lunch with Dennis Ybarra back during the Christmas holidays when he was here in the Houston area to visit his son and we talked about Perry. He told me that the governor flew as his copilot, but I don't know if they were on an assigned crew or just flew together on a few trips. He also mentioned that he had a nickname because of his head of hair but I'm not certain what it was. Dennis was going to invite Rick to join the TCTAA but he passed away suddenly in May. I was under the impression that they were in the 774th at the time but the Austin Statesman reporter says Perry's military records show him being in the 772nd. Dennis was in the 772nd at some point, but he was also in the 774th; I'm just not sure where since he started out in Herks at Clark in the 463rd.

Sounds like the typical news media. You tell them one thing as you know the facts and by the time it gets into print or edited for TV it don't even resemble the original story. Most reporters have no connection to the military nor know the jargon and most of them despise it. Have been misquoited more than once myself. Was an eye witness to a light plane crash in Utah and the story that appeared on the news sounded like it was from another world. Bill :)

You see that "retired' all the time when anyone with any military experience is shown or quoted. That paragon of historical accuracy and information Discovery channel and its off spring, TLC, ect, all do that. Watch any show, like from the Vietnam era, and you will see a PFC or specialist fourth or what ever, and their pop-up will always say "Retired". hey reckon, I'm "USAF C-130, loadmaster, Staff Sergeant retired." and I only did four years. As an additional point, these channels are laden with crap and nobody wanting to learn accurate information should use them as a source. I am big into 18th century American history, especially the time period of 1747 to 1771, and they ain't got much right yet..........and, from the 'Military Channel" did you know that C-130's have canvas seats and no air conditioning???????? How the hell can we get some information from the media to make decent decisions when they ain't got a damn clue?????????????????? My daily curmudgeon report...........

I always say I am a veteran not retired I am retired from some other job. But I put may service out front as I did that first and it molded me in to a the person I am at this time.

Anybody who disagrees or cannot grasp the validity of this post just ain't been there. Well said, brother, well said.

When we had the 346th and 347th Loadmaster reunion at Dyess in 2005, we invited Gov. Perry to come and speak. He wrote a nice note saying he wished that he could but was busy with state business at the time. Instead, he sent a proclaimation thanking all of us for our service and a special one for Gary Speers, the lone survivor of the 66' crash at Dyess. Gary was our guest of honor. Gov. Perry got a lot of points in my book for that gesture.

Not that Perry is retired, that had to be a misquote, but there ARE a lot of lower rank troops E3,4's, O1's,2's who are medically retired from the service, either from wounds recieved or service connected injurys while on active duty. Bill :)

Oh yeah, I realize this, and that's fine. What i was referring to was when they do an interview with a guy, who never once mentioned anything like that and since he is out, they assume he is retired. I don't think very swingin' weiner they show is out on medical etc.Bunch of incompetents don't know the difference.

There is a bond that forms between people that is strengthened through shared experience. Most accept the bond and keep the faith with their fellow brothers and sisters. Some however, do not. Sounds like Gov Perry keeps the faith. However, I cannot forget or forgive those who would denigrate the service and sacrifice of our service members. People like John Kerry and Hollywood types like Jane Fonda. I'm proud to have served with a great group of people who keep the faith and honor the sacrifice of those who went before and those who are serving now. I'm proud to be associated with the fine people on this site.

Some Federal Judge in Colorado made the ruling, the Liberal Jackasses better know as the 9th Circuit Court upheld the ruling, and today it was filed with the Supreme Court.

-Down in dirty reason for it being declared unconstitutional?

From the 9th Circuit Court's ruling:

“then there would be no constitutional bar to criminalizing lying about one’s height, weight, age, or financial status on Match.com or Facebook, or falsely representing to one’s mother that one does not smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, is a virgin, or has not exceeded the speed limit while driving on the freeway.

Lyin about being a war hero is fair game for the 9th circuit? How about pretending to be a judge, a sugeon, a pilot or a police officer? What a bunch of idiots! Too many people have portrayed themselves as military heros, buy medals and uniforms or just lied about themselves. Dan Rather CBS news was one. There is no checking by reporters when they take a Vets story at face value. I had a reporter describe to me a vietnam vets story about drinking, shaking and hiding under the bed. The reporter "knew" his Vietnam story was true because his wife was fauning over him trying to calm him down. The story didn't ring true to me because she described combat action where he "dropped a grenade" down a hole in a vill and found out later that he had killed a family and "little kids". The guy was a cook or something but the reporter took his word for everything and reported it that way. No checking. Just reinforces the "Crazy Broken Viet Nam Vet" steriotype. Disgusting!
