Yeah, Bob, the story is one of two,how the 105 got it's name, one was it was named after Chief Thunderthud, the Indian on the Howdy Doody, the second is that was the sound it made when it hit the ground. These are from Jack Broughton's book 'Thud Ridge.' It seems to me that somewhere I read a blurb that said the U-2 drivers had such capsules, but who knows for sure. somebody always comes up with somethin' spark up a story, and never lets the true interfere.

oh, yeah forgot to mention it was originally named thunderchief, of course nowhere near as classy as HERCULES!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, if our bird was named after a male mythological figure, why do we call it a HER???????????????? Inquiring minds want to know...................Maybe the same reason ships are female it costs so much to keep them in paint and powder????????????? Oh, hell, I'm goin' back to bed....
