herkeng3
does anybody experience that: In flight we experience very big vibration( the left wingtip move at least 1 meter up and down), just after the number 1 engine flame out, we shut it down by moving the condition lever in feather then pulling the T handle. The vibration stopped but we have the surprise to see that only 3 blades came in feather position the fourth one stay in position. Sorry if my english isn't as good as i would like. NATOPS1
I have heard of one entire blade departing (falling off) it seperated at the hub. The aircraft was on the ground when this happened so not so bad but the blade landed about half a mile from the aircraft.... To shear the segment gears on only one blade is pretty rare I would think. Lkuest
I've seen this caused by the hardware shearing off at the blade butt. There's a couple of screws and a couple of mounting studs that keep everything necessary for pitch change of the blade together. Thankfully it happened during a maintenance run. Happened to a Little Rock crew during flight 2000ish?
SouthPaw48
i saw this happen while I was in the 61st, roughly 1986. Occurred on takeoff in a formation. Cracked 3 mounts.
Ronc
Happened to a 9th SOS crew while TDY to Turkey, the airplane sure looked funny coming in for a landing. When we removed the dome the hardware that attaches the pitch change mechanism to the blade was laying in the bottom of the barrel assembly. Robert Cantwell
Hello I am working on understanding why The Hamilton Standard 54H60 blades used on the C-130's and the P-3 have been cracking . An example would be the 10 July 2017 KC-130 mishap in Mississippi as well as others. Usually it not the gears, but than it does happen. But i am interested in any info regarding any incidents that you all may recall of a blade separating from an aircraft. I am a NDT Specialist looking into where, when and how this happens and and information you may have could be very helpful in my research. Thank you for your time.
