Oil Temperature

Hi all..

I just needed to know that some of our FE mentioned that in case we put the Bleed off of an engine whose oil temp is high(85-100) it does have an extra cooling effect. we are operating C-130 E models... Any better idea and views of the experts

If we are talking about ground operations closing the bleed air would reduce the TIT which would reduce the temperature inside the engine but oil temp is most likely not going to be reduced much if at all.

Better idea operate the engine in LSGI and advance the throttle towards flight idle one or two knobs worth to increase the flow of air thru the cooler. The reduced RPM and increased airflow should help keep your oil temps good you can cycle the engines (inboard/outboard) between HSGI and LSGI to cool oil and keep your electrics.

Is the extra cooling effect that you have oil cooler augmentation? if so, any downsped engine with it on will greatly cool down, natops is correct too, on symmetrical engines you can bump the throttles up when in LSGI just before it goes over the gate and draw more air past the oil cooler if need be.
