  1. Sorry about you joining the club Chris. I hope you are able to continue traveling.
  2. I may be old and full of crs, but how you gonna start without bleed air to turn the starters? Guess a group of people could stand in front of one of the engines and blow real hard so it could windmill. I have met some peeps that could do that all by themselvs.
  3. We had snow at Sewart one year, 63 or 64 and they closed the flt line for a couple of days.
  4. We scrape that flat sun dried Possom up and put it in a can and sell it to the yankies as potted meat.
  5. I had a strecher set up behind the 245 and logged lots of hours in flight and on the ground in that thing.
  6. When I got to Sewart, I was sent on the rookies quest for some "Prop wash". One of the guys in supply just happened to have a quart can and loaned it to me. I took it back to him after showing it to the rest of the crew.
  7. I have been out 0f the USAF 48 years today. I didn't know when I was well off.
  8. After getting laidoff at lockheed, I worked at a small private airport in North Ga. We had a bounch of old fabric coverd planes. Back then you could buy one for about $2000. The owner showed me some ruts in the runway and told me a C-130 had touched down there but took off and didn't stop. I guess a touch and go.
  9. A F-102 sqd. was sent to Naha in 1965 TDY, and got PCS orders while there. I spent about 30 days with them while one of the mechanics took a 30 day leave. Everyone in that Sqd got to take a 30 day leave. About all I did was pull fuel access panels from under the wings. They seemed to have fuel leaks after each flight. I couldn't take anymore of it so I went back to D section.
  10. Who knew, when I started working on A models in 1963 I would be working on Legonds.
  11. I had a wonderful day on Vets day. My grandson's 2nd grade had a bring a Vet to lunch day and I was invited and went, along with other Vets. Next Appelbys fed me free lunch. My youngest Daughter showed me she could replace a headlight on her car; How proud that makes a father. Hope you other Vets had as good a day as I did!
  12. That ain't no joke, you talkin bout me now!
  13. It got to where the Flt crew would bring some c rats out to my plane before a mission, and we ate them instead of the in-flight box nasties. We sometimes went on scouting missions for what we thought we would need. We had the "J" bars on board all the time, on my plane.
  14. We had the tie down chains in bins along side the bottom ramp door, don't remember how many there were. The binders were hanging close to the bins and the straps were hanging next to them. I tried to keep 3 cases of "C" rations in the upper door and a case or 2 of Mcgoo. I never saw any of the jump platforms or the loading ladders. We either let the ramp down or had the Pax enter through the crew door. We used "J" Bars alot before we got the dual rails but I don't remember where we stowed them or the ladder we used for Maint purposses, or the Pogo stick.

I don't even know what "Magenta" Is!
  16. I always thought the Herc was the best looking, and tuffest plane we have. So happy they put me on it instead of a B-52.
  17. I saw some of this a few years ago in a Doc. on Wings or maybe the Military channel. Still Impressed!!!
