A great effort, if we loose a few more of them buggers, perhaps they will get the hint, go home and stay home. Nice to see you around both Bob's Regards Col
  2. We were always taught that the T56 had 1,000 lbs of thrust at take off. Not bad when you consider that our primary jet trainer could only come up with 3200lbs at maximum power. Regards Col
  3. I can now see why you want to go back "Local hotties through the back fence." what next. Giz nice to see you back, hope things are going well, keep them fire trucks polished and ready. Regards to you both Col
  4. If that is you welcome back. If that is not you, you have some big shoes to fit into. Regards Col Tigwell
  5. You did not wrong, but down here where regulations should stop this, the government allowed it to happen. That is the sad part, the little guy who cannot kick butt, he is the one who carries the can. Regards Col
  6. A great effort, and what I found interesting, was that the captain stated that he had been practicing for emergency situation all his flying career. Looking at the video, he really did not have much time to plan and execute this exercise. A nice bit of flying and it had a happy ending. Luck did not feature in that exercise, just a great effort by a professional. Any way why am I saying this, would we expect less, he war trained by the best flying club in the world. Air Force the wat to go Regards Col
  7. Whilst I agree that these publications should be restricted, in the real world at least with the C130 you can obtain them easely. I have one sitting here right now, did not come from your Air Force or mine, downloaded from the Captain Sim website. I can recall after Ernie's remarks the first RAF C130K that came to Richmond. They had hand flown the airplane from the UK, because at that stage they could not get the Smiths auto pilot to work. The load master had no dash 9, and did not even know that with the GTC running he could raise and lower the ramp. The FE had a piece of foolscap paper full of notes which he shared with the drivers and that was their dash 1. Damn thinks I this is a bit hairy, went and found them an E model dash 1 and copy of the dash 9 and they were over the moon, Why the Britts elected to go the way they did I will never know. Our E's and their K were actually coming down the line at the same time. However I am amzed at what publications are offered by that company mentioned early. Aboard closed checked Col
  8. These scum bags are every where, feeding off the misery of those less fortunate. A lot of them are all around the world, bringing their greed into too many families. Time the governments of the world woke up, and brought the banking industry world wide into line. They are just as bad down here. regards Col
  9. If you go to the web site of Captain Sim, you can download free, his flight manual I believe for the E and J model. If you do not do any good, come back and I will have a poke around else where. Regards Col
  10. Yes it called Williamtown, like most of our bigger bases was from WW2 or earlier. Doubt if you would know it now so many changes. Regards Col
  11. No fires yet in my area. Bad an hours flight away/ lost over a 100 people. What is really sad is that 50% of fires in Australia are deliberately lit. Sad times caused by sick people. Thanks for thinking of me, much appreciated Col
  12. Not from Australia, and I doubt it was New Zealand, all our aircraft were stock standard. Regards Col
  13. With nearly 30,000 hours of driving, I think it should get you put in the great effort section. Hope you and your lady had a great Xmas Regards Col
  14. The ex RAAF C130A 3214 owned by Earl Cherry is going to require some outer wings. These are the original ones and according to Snow Aviation need replacing. There should be a market for real late model wings, the RAF already have concern about the fatique on their J models. Ernie you might like to comment, but I think the problem with the RAF ones cause by the high AUW they fly at and maybe how agressively they fly the airplane. Have heard nothing yet about the RAAF ones, but fatique is a real issue on the RAAF H models, again caused in part by agressive army requirements. regards Col
  15. The first thing to consider is that the maximum AUW of the airplane has not changed. The next thing is the C of G limits depend upon the actual weight of the airplane at the time the mission is started. The wings on a stretched C130 and L100 are basically the same and for this purpose are the same. As the C of G limits are set by the MAC then again nothing changes. For those who do not quite understand MAC is an average of the wing chords. My understanding the main restrictions on the airframe, is the rotation and touch down angle. This is to stop the tail skid being written off during landing and take off. How is the job going, mother and lovely daughter going fine I hope. Great to see you posting again. All the best everyone for Xmas. Regards Col
  16. good morning all ! Merry Christmas from downunder, do not forget that we get ours the day before you guys. In 1959 the USAF Brought an A model down here, to show all and sundry what we were getting in new year. Serial 57-0468. I will put a posting on the RAAF airman aircrew web site, one of us old timers surely would have taken a photo. The airplane was under the command of a Captain Akers if I recall correctly. If any one wants to see range of photos of Aussie Herks go to http://www.airmanaircrew.com click on the unit badges for 36 and 37 Squadrons and there they are. Regards Col
  17. Asking me to go back a long way but aircraft was 3208 I believe, and was demontrating short field landing on a open day. I think Jock Fordyce was the engineer. If you put a posting on. airmanaircrew.com Someone will come up with the details. Click on the photos hidden behind the squadron badges and you should find youself in younger days. You can also register by clicking on Lance. Regards Col
  18. Aircraft was A97-008 C130H. Worse nose wheel failure was back in the mid 60\'s when a C130A had a similair problem, only that time the damage was bad and the underneath section under the flight deck floor had to be replaced. Main thing is this bird will fly again soon and no one was hurt. Regards Col
  19. An unidentified airman, nationality unknown has been discovered hanging 50 foot up in a tree just off the KOkoda Trail. The body which is in sn sviators hsrness, is covered in moss so no uniform details are available. Recovery may take some time because of the location and height of this poor soul. He could be American, Australian or even Japanese. I wi;l keep you in the loop as things come out. Regards Col
  20. Just like the Aussie E models that went to the PAF. Bet you no money changed hands on that one either. Col
  21. During my years with SAT I worked many of the same projects, all over Africa, with the Belgians and they, along with the Canadians, were always extremely professional in everything they did, although they never let that get in the way of having a good time. I just wish I could say the same thing about some of the USAF crews, but that was years ago in Somalia and, hopefully, things have changed since then. I did the CAE herk sim in Brussels last Feb and the instructors were 2 Belgian FE\'s who did a fantastic job. I have been doing herk sims since 1987 with Reflectone, Simuflite, and now CAE and these two guys were about the best I have ever worked with during that entire period. If the rest of their herkforce are anything like these two guys maybe the USAF should just hire them to do our trash hauling and we could save the taxpayers a ton of money.
  22. We heard down here that it had a four engined roll back. Also the photos i sent to Stoney, show the floor spilt up the centre line. Sad to see a good aircarft go that way Regards Col
  23. Well back in 1958, just before we took delivery of the C130A, we had a USAF C130 doing a tour of Australia. The maritime fellows were full of themselves, Flying 12 year old P2V5 aircraft, which at that stage only had the two recips. They won the best squadron of the year award with a suitable award and parade. As they did a low speed fly over and pull up, right behind them came the USAF C130, Straight over the parade just a little lower than the Neptunes, and as he pulled up in a steep climb, shut down the two outboards.and across the load speakers came the Yank cry, \"lets see you do that. Great days and greater memories. Regards Col
  24. According to Marshalls the conversion is so extensive the aircraft will not be able to come back. Must be costing Airbus a million or two just to flight test the engine. Give mw a C17 in preferance to this airframe any day. regards Col
  25. The sad thing about this conversion, is that according to Marshalls the airplane cannot be converted back. Shame as I believe the aircraft has less than 16,000 hours on it. This is the aircraft that was converted back from being Snoopie, and was stated to be sold over seas. Also my info source was wrong, it is 10\" between the prop tip and fusalage. Regards Col
