  1. Hey Ya'll! " Weight and Balance Clearance Form-F - Transport", "DD Form 365-4" on the front of the form, on the backside it was: "Weight And Balance Clearance Form F - Tactical" with "DD Form 365-4 Reverse" Along with the line about the Transport/tactical it had the year of the form and the standard line: "previous editions are obsolete" I do have a slip stick that looks like the one Ole' General Ripper (sorry Dan! couldn't resist!) but where his is marked for his aircraft mine lists C-130E. It also doesn't have the "clear" sliding component on it (not sure the tech name for it) probably a victim of sitting in the LM Sup's desk for years. Fleagle
  2. Hey Crewdogs! Had some "downtime", noticed a movie that came out when I was a kid was coming on so I sat back with a barley-pop to watch. Early in the movie when the "crew" is being "evacuated" they are taken to a ramp where in the background you can see the #4 of a Herk (three bladed). It almost looked like there were two Herks - not sure. Any of Ya'll have any idea where that clip was filmed? (more exactly who's Herks and the where of it all) Fleagle Oh yeah, later in the movie they "fly" two RC helicopters into a cliff - so very "lifelike" LOL!
  3. Well - worked with the things my early years in service (Skycop/79 - ICDI) with the old NOD then in later years worked with the PVS 5's and 7's. Y e a r s later after I'd retrained we were ramping up the "how to" for the formal school house training while the Op's dudes were out there (making me one frustrated jealous hacker). Had an EL from our "sister" unit take two of us up for a simple training HE and CDS drop using that initial checklist. Not a bloody thing was NVG compatable in the back so we were using metalic duct tape around the Red/Green light fixtures, taping the "bite lights" to just about every thing from escape handles to the oxy-regulators. This fine KLRF night we got both drops out no prob. We'd turned the cargo compartment lights back on, I was pulling the remains of the gate through the Van Zelm (sp?)doing clean up, when I looked over and saw the EL pulling the bite light taped to the right side wall exit. One loud whump and I saw the side escape hatch headed my way - hit me just above the boot right side (I was facing foward) - I did have a lot to say about it, very descriptive stuff - thanks to some furious luck I was not connected to the interphone. Simple fix but bloody hell I'm suprised my helmet didn't ignite for all the four letter'd descriptors I loosed on the world! LOL! Man I miss flying! You AD/Operators out there - safe flight, smooth landings! Bert aka Fleagle aka Rowdy
  4. Crewdogs! I know my info is dated (retired after 26yrs back in 2005) and not meaning to give anybody grief but didn't 35-10 get a new "name" when they re-arranged the regs? Of no real worry - I hear Pink Floyd "Free Four" every day LOL! I do recall the "rack and stack" buffoonery - I just cast it over my mental shoulder and pressed on. Then, like a BLU-82 in the middle of the night (man I wish I could have airdropped one of those things!) The Sq CC called the SNCO's/section supts in to let us know we'd have to rack and stack the entire section...........monthly updates and such. Guess I worked up a load of peeved off "smash" - if the baby was ugly then that's just what it is and I'd say so. The Chief told me once I was his "dark horse" Oh well! I walked with my integrity intact!

    Movies

Hey You Crewdogs! I'm "speeding" here (had a CC that used that phrase for folks getting outside operational parameters - LOL!) Is there any avi clips on this site that can be viewed by non-members? Reason I ask is just went through the 30th anniversary of high school grad and there's a crowd of them that are curious to see airdrop. If there isn't anything like that here any vector would be appreciated! Tango Yankee, Barley On! Fleagle

    MAC Purse

Hummmmm! I had a MAC purse - used it to carry a flight log, passport, shot records etc. (mostly mobility stuff) Carried the thing in the lower right leg flight suit pocket, made things easier when we walked the processing line before deployment. Anybody remember just how fun "walking" the pre-deployment lines were? I always felt bad for the chaplin - didn't seem folks wanted to talk with him. The most dreaded part of the line was (and I'm going to maul the spelling here so if anybody can correct I'd truly appreciate it!) was the doc shop/immunization station. I can handle most "shots" but the meningococcal - - bloody hell, can truly say I hated that thing Happy New Years Crewdogs - safe flight, smooth landings! Bert AKA "Fleagle" or "Rowdy"
  7. Ugh! If my scanner worked I'd send you the instructions on how to build the thing. Again my info is from a -9 dated 15 Aug 95. If you can get your hands on a "dash nine" go to Section II/ Description Of Airplane Features. At the "end" of the section you'll find (in my copy) two figures that depict the dimensions of material needed and how its put together. The Fig calls it "Cargo Ramp Support Platform (Milk Stool)" Sorry I couldn't help beyond that! Fleagle
  8. Guess I was just lucky - was at Dyess/40 AS from 93 - 01, flew #1666 quite a few times, can't recall any problems/events. At one point they had a way cool "lil devil" painted on the nose - for some reason (depot?) it was painted over. Later another nose art was painted on but to me it looked like a squashed tomato...... Fleagle
  9. OK Ya'll! Working with some dated memory here- Saw a Globemaster sitting on a ramp at McChord the few times we passed through. One of the pilots made a comment about how the interior had been re-furb'd for holding meetings/dinner's with visiting brass. Being an old Sgt/LM the "Ya gotta' be shi//ing' me" light illuminated. Anybody out there got the real "skinny" on that aircraft?
  10. My bad -- RD = Rapid Depressurization. I checked the TO (and Ya'll keep in mind this -1 is dated 1 Oct 98). In section 1 it describes it as the "Emergency Depressurization Door" (in about the area in the TO where they "talk" about things like the cabin pressure controller, safety valve etc. Later in section one it addresses the emergency escape exits for the overheads as Overhead Escape Hatches. Fleagle (its official - I got an instant headache when I first opened the TO and saw SS's & OS's! EEE-gads!)
  11. My short stint in Herks the -1 and tech school called them FWD, Center, and Aft - only remarkable thing with the center was the RD ability...... Rowdy
  12. Crewdogs! For some reason I got the "pinch" when reading/talking about the order of degree when mentioning "Note", "Caution" or "Warning. Had to break out the old -1 and found I still had some sanity left: "Note: Operating procedures, techniques, etc which are considered essential to emphasize" "Caution: Operating procedures, techniques, etc which could result in damage to equipment if not carefully followed" "Warning: Operating procedures, techniques, etc which could result in personal injury or loss of life if not carefully followed" Of course theres always the para about "Sound Judgement" on the preceding page but in the note, caution and warning lineup I'm a thinking (my old evaluator node) warning is the top dog when talking "uh oh's" As to the checklist concern - sorry, can't help Ya there without talking with an FE - sorry! Ya'll behave or just don't get bloody caught! Bert "Rowdy"
  13. "Havoc - 58" was their call sign. The crew was a mix of 39th and 40th crew dogs flying a "blue tail" (40th aircraft) 74-1662 that had just returned from depot and had only flown one off station before the mishap. I was in the 40th at the time, Ricky Merrit (FE) was a good friend, and the IL "Jay" Smith a neighbor and friend as well. The AC, Maj Kevin Earnist (also known as "BooBoo") was the commanders Exec in the 39th and was not a new AC by any stretch. I was tasked with the NOK following the AIB results to brief the widow of the UL. Spent a few days in briefings prior to our taking the report to the familys. I do have the "civil" release of the AIB, its to the point, has the CVR transcript as well. VR Bert "Fleagle"

    Guns and Trucks

You guys put me to shame! I was happy with the ole' 30.06, M1A Scout Squad (.308) and my .45 - started up reloading last year when prices began that creep'n climb. Picked up a Bushmaster M-4, adapted a picatinny (sp?) rail to the carrying handle - stuck an Aimpoint Mil Comp 2 on it for plinkin' .......... then I see/read about Ya'lls collections...... ...... ......... ...damn! Fleagle
  15. I was in the skycops - first assignment Incirlike Common Defense Installation (ICDI). I was on the initial crash recovery response to the 1980 Herk - we were told it was a lightning strike. Spent 20+ hours in the mud (the storm cleared for a few hours then it rained on and off through the night) The band aboard was made up of Maint troops - only "Rock" band we had at the time. They'd go around the remote's doing the morale thing. One of the bandmembers had his wife along that trip, she worked at the audio visual center - great couple/friends. Years later when I retrained to LM my first set of orders was to the 773rd, that changed to the 40AS while I was still in tech shool. The 39th had a memorial for both crews lost in their heritage room. I know the suadrons moved to the old child care center shortly after I PCS's out. "Rowdy"
  16. Wow! 16 F-4's and 2 Herks....dang! During my training days (tech school) into the skycops (1979) we had a few instructors that had background in the Air Police, they'd talk a bit about their experiences - but not much. The flight I was on was accused one night of swiping an F-4 drag chute - we'd found the thing sitting on the "15 in 5" road off one end of the runway. Another day I got to watch a Turkish F-100 go off roading (off the end of the runway) and out to the base golf course. The "old heads" those days kept the CCR playing and beer flowing on break days, quite the inspiration! Anybody out there remember "Toga I" at the "Lick"? Seems folks in the leadership realm decided a blowout, some OJT for us snot-nosed buggers on bat-hanging & crud was in order. Only thing I saw years later that almost reached the intensity of Toga I (and later that year Toga II) was a trash-haulers ball the squadron held (I retrained to LM - shoulda' done it sooner!) 17. I take it the door didn't strike #2 or along the side when it departed? Imagine having to use the Crew Entrance Door for bailout - as I recall it was the last resort if needing to bail out and the -1 EP's stated to push out and downward if using that door........gads!
  18. Cliff, I retired Oct 05 - found out last year that two decorations I had been awarded did not make it into my offical record. I filled out the form mentioned earlier in the thread - a few weeks later I got a call from Randolph asking for a copy of the "Special Order" for those decorations. I did have copies, fired it off and about a month later recieved an amendment to my 214 AND! they actually sent the medals with the clusters for each. If I understood you correctly you have the decoration but not the supporting paperwork/orders - did anybody else get the same decoration at the same time? If you are in contact with somebody that has a copy of the Special Order it should be a "snap" to get things pulled straight. Best of Luck to Ya! Fleagle
  19. I know one safety brief day at Little Rock they spent some time on the story of the Herk at the main gate having some incredible # of evacuee's - wouldn't be the same aircraft by chance? Fleagle
  20. Dang! Forgot to mention - the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) are definitely someone you want to speak with. A few days back I got a letter from the DAV talking about the "DAV National Service on Wheels". Turns out the good folks at the Harley-Davidson Foundation poney'd up the $$$ for the vehicle. Take a look at: www,dav.org - the schedule for the vehicles rounds of the states is there as well as how to locate the nearest DAV to you. Another Org' out there is "Veterans for America" at: veteransforamerica.org - they had a "survival guide" in PDF format available earlier this year, not sure if its still avail. I did save a copy of the thing so if anybody wants it lemme' know and I'll get it moving your way. Bert "Rowdy"
  21. Dang! I guess I\'ve officially crossed the \"line\" for age.... gads! Lemme\' know where to sign up, I\'ll bring my 308 along! Rowdy
  22. Well, Heck! KDYS - 1993 - 2001. they \"slipped\" us over to the BW for a while then back out to the tenant unit status. I must say I liked the tenant unit stuff far better. Was in Stan/Eval during a few exercises (BW has exercise - the whole base including tenant units \"played\" - Tenant unit runs an exercise, BW wouldn\'t blink....)Saw a B-1B engine set up for a chalk - the thing was \"frustrated\" for a half dozen reasons to include the Haz-mat paperwork. BW SSgt rails into the load planning room (where we had two LM\'s assisting as a courtesy) and verbally blasted away at them for the LM\'s not coming down to BW to check it out before it processed. We got that straightened out and pressed on. Two months later, same SSgt, same type load, same errors - - that was one of the few moments where I was truly happy to take a name for the evening debrief! gads.... Rowdy

    53AS

Bummer it sure was to PCS from KDYS to KLRF (self imposed move, was having too much fun mission hacking but saw the retirement line so Vol\'d for the Rock because the degree was required - the proverbial gun to the head, got the Five Three). Great troops there during my short tenure but as the Hacker (and LM supt) on the block it didn\'t quite fit into my \"template\" as I in-pro\'d the base Sept 11th, 01. That got me into a bit of tangle wanting to push the mission when the orientation of the group slewed a more political path. I still have the feedback sheet with the remark calling me \"champion of the common man\" - - - Oh well, I walked with my integrity intact. Fleagle

    A model

I wonder if both those pics omit showing the nose as well intentionally. That is a curious appearance to the front/left. Fleagle
