  1. Why not go fly by wire with a cable and pulley back up like the C-17?
  2. Our General confirmed what we thought was just a rumor. Since Pope already has hangers built for the J, the AF is planning on taking the J-s that were going to Dobbins and ship them to us at KPOB and send our H2's to Dobbins. He sad it just has to get approved by congress. They said it would save a lot of money since they would not have to build anymore buildings. Anybody else hear anything about this?
  3. Been around for a long time.
  4. Pope is the last place you want to go for FLT hours and experience. Been here for a few years now and have nothing to show for it.
  5. If you want to stop by Pope and take a gander let me know. I'll take you out to a H2.
  6. The rails that hold pallets in. I know maint can remove them on the pre-J models.
  7. I am assuming it's the same as other models. What is the max width a piece of rolling stock can be? With and without the dual rails installed. Also the max width before the wheel well. Thanks.
  8. Got any info on that AMP deal. Keep hearing it's going to be along time for that to happen from higher up's. Hoping it comes sooner rather than later.
  9. I have been at Pope for about 2 years. I live in Lillington/Buies Creek. About 28 miles one way to the base. Lot more people moving out here because of all the new Army "BRAC" moving this way from GA. It's peaceful and worth the drive. No city taxes either. I assume you're going to the 2nd. If you will enjoy the SQ CC. He takes care of his folks and care about the non-fliers as much as the fliers. Since the reserve guys go home no later than 2300 every night that's the latest you would normally ever have to work. Pretty slow tempo right now and it's not all that bad here as long as you don't live around Bragg.
  10. The other Yokota birds are in the sand.
  11. Did it for 10 years on the 17. Sucked but we made it happen.
  12. Just missed out on 4000 hours on that thing before I went to herks. Man I miss it. I know the die hard herk folks won't understand but 17's are combat proven now and so capable.
  13. We have 9284. We finally get a trip off station for today and 284 canceled that for us. Broke all the time. It might as well not even be here.
  14. Not sure. All I know is we are supposed to have 16 planes and only have 15 due to the AMP bird being at CA. At least that's what the commander of the 95th said. What you said makes sense though. I'm A/D so I'm not sure how the reserves are working their planes.
  15. I'm AD at Pope and we can barely get any hours as it is. Can't imagine losing 4 more planes considering one of our 16 has been out at Edwards for the AMP deal forever and we always have one at depot. Don't know how many more years the AMP bird will be out there. These things never fly due to maintenance as it is. We are trying a 3 turn 3 and are lucky if half of the planes fly each day.
  16. It's on the way. The riggers at Pope are very busy right now. 24 hour ops rigging like crazy.

    MAC Purse

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you so much. Same pages I had.

    MAC Purse

The one I have is small. Only like 4x6 and I lost the last log sheets I had once I started tracking my flight time with palm log pro. Problem is is that if the palm pilot battery goes so does your flight log. I'm ready to go back to paper and don't want to use the big log sheets. The ones they had at Kadena were perfect.

    MAC Purse

Does anybody know where I can get the replacement flight time log sheets for the MAC purse you get in Kadena. I don't get there anymore so I need another source. Thanks.
  20. What are the differences in the -8 model?
  21. I am a prior C-17 SOLL II Evaluator at CHS. Now I'm at Pope. I should have worded things better. My fault. I am not bashing the Herc by any means. I apologize if it came off that way. I just wish we would have waited and looked at something better than the J or went with the AMP program on a tremendous airframe. I think it would have been money better spent. But I only have limited experience with Herc's and maybe there is a reason that I don't understand.
  22. They just announced 250-350 new jobs down in Charleston working on that thing. The modified 747 that carries the fuselage to Washington is pretty neat to see in person. The whole tail end comes unhinged and folds to the left.
  23. Obviously they don't do either so your post is pointless. Well the stall speed is less than that. Can a herc carry 40,000 lbs on the ramp alone like a C-17? No. Can a C-17 carry what a C-5 can? No. Not even close. Pointless. See what I mean? And if your on MC-130P's than you've seen C-17's at Multilates doing the same thing C-130's do. Not saying they can do everything a MC can do. Although just about every time I did a multi the two Talons flew and the papa was broke. Maybe you should do a little research as well. You would have noticed that I said I'm on herks now and I am by no means bashing the plane or it's great history. The J modal I can't stand for the simple fact that I think they could have updated it a little more before Lockheed and the GA congressmen pushed it down the DOD's throat. I've been coming to this site for a little longer than you so I know not to shit talk about Herc's. Don't turn my OPINION it to that. Did you defend your old job this much before you cross-trained?
