  1. Never skied at Cam Rahn, but did a lot of swimming. The barracks were just over the hill from the beach. At night we'd watch movies that the Red Cross (I think) would provide. Also seen the choppers flying overhead looking for sharks. Never seen any of them shoot into the water. I do remember the shore guard yelling at us telling us to get out of the water, we assumed it was because of sharks. I was there 68 - 69.
  2. 1968 in Da Nang VN we helped an A model with a buddy start. I tried to put up a picture but it wouldn't show up.
  3. Great memories of CCK, thanks for the link...Bob Hope was there just after I left CCK in July 69. Most of his jokes may only be appreciated if you were familiar with the C-130's.
  4. We were told the bombs were for helicopter LZ's. I couldn't believe it when I first saw one in Cam Rahn Bay in the cargo bay.
  5. Last year I was able to get a "walk around" on a newer 130, but still "looks" the same. The crew, out of Georgia, was very nice to me also, calling me "sir". The co-pilot was a young women (sorry ladies, I can't get used to it) and very knowledgable of the plane...I guess she should be. They were a great crew and let me do almost anything I wanted. I'm sure they thought I was showing off when I was asking about things that must be done before take-off and landing (they surely thought I was testing their knowledge of the plane). Just the smell of the plane being on it made it feel like I'd never left.
  6. I've been a member of the PGR for the last 3 years. It is a great honor to be a member.
  7. I went TDY from Forbes in '66 over the Christmas holidays. Did a lot of flying around Europe. I was able to get to London one day with a buddy of mine that went over with me, but on another plane. We paid a taxi driver lots of pounds to drive us to all the hot spots. I remember one of the guys in our hut got back fairly drunk, stood up on his top bunk and peed on the pot belly stove. Man did it stink. We were younger then!

    TDY\'S

My first TDY was from Forbes in '66 to San Isdro Dominican Republic to evacuate American citizens and miltary personnel. We were there for two weeks before going back to Forbes. Not only first TDY, but my first time out of the US. Being a country boy, it was a real culture shock.
