Bill,
All that's on the back is "Sept '70".... The same pictures I've posted....(USAF product)
The picture with me has no date at all... (BX photo shop)
The wife was there the second week of Oct '70.. (Found hotel bill, VNP 15000)
I think I made two, maybe three trips to the site with tools and parts... Didn't get to see the blow job...
I would like the name of the base and tail number if you ever get it figured.. (90 deg. and clear here today)
Thanks for the memories..

I will dig thru the pictures again to see if the photos were dated.. The wife came to Saigon in the fall of '70... She says I talked about the job while there..
Give me a few days to dig............ NanJac.........

Bill Lang....
I was part of the recovery crew from TSN.. We scabbed over the damaged area after removing most loose parts and if I remember right, it was "buddy started" and sent to the PI.. GTC and most of the hardware was removed, lines capped, tires changed and gear chained dn .. #1 had a prop blade blended.. #2 had fuel/oil lines damage..
The grayed image has me talking with the AP.. No hat.. I went on several recovery.. Yours was the most damage.. Almost suggested burning it..
What was the base and tail number of acft??
I pestered the VA until I got 10% for tinnitus. Mine was based on 20yrs flt line ..

SPEAKING GERMAN IN TEXAS
In Texas there is a town called New Braunfels , where there
is a large German-speaking population. One day, a local
rancher driving down a country road noticed a man using his
hand to drink water from the rancher's stock pond. The rancher rolled down the window and shouted:
"Sehr angenehm! Trink das Wasser nicht.
Die kuehe haben darein geschissen."
Which means: "Glad to meet you!
Don't drink the water, the cows have shit in it."
The man shouted back: "I'm from New York and just down
here setting up Hillary’s presidential campaign.I can't understand you. Please speak in English."
The rancher replied: "Use both hands."

There is a C130 airframe setting at the west side of Lawson AFF.. I cant get to for pics or number.. Looks to be used for training... Ramp in place..
Anybody anything about it?
Happy New Year.... Jack

"J" bar was used for many things.. Tire changes, engine changes, etc.. Best heavy tool on the acft...Only heavy tool in the boonies... Prop dome won't seat? Chocks came in handy..

Wasn't that a 100hr inspection item a few years back..
I seem to have removed several in the past to clean and lube both sides...

Somewhere in-country in the '70-'71 time frame, I was setting across the top of #3 engine finishing up a TD valve housing change... The troops were tossing tools to me as the ladder was being moved about the acft for the pre-flt.. It would appear with someone climbing up to hand me a part.. Then disappear again.
The flt crew had a good card game going on the nav table..
Soon a small jeep appeared and an army, full dress bull col. got out. "I'm gonna' set it 'afar' if it's not off the ground by sundown!!! I am not backstoppin' for a gd mortor magnet!!!" He was looking dead at me as he shifted his twin pearl handled P-38s.. Got in the jeep and drove off..
Flt crew showed up as he departed wanting to know 'what did he say?' As I was finishing up the cowling some one was digging the ladder out of the plane.. They forgot about me up there... I was coming down the ladder as #1 was turning.. The bird was moving as we threw things in the back and climbed in...
We rotated at sunset... Good ground check...
My Ladder story and I'm sticking to it!!

Looks like TSN in '70-'71... (Det 1, 834th AD) We had C-123's and Herc's on Charlie row at that time.. I had a 'liquid lock' on a R-2800 and bent a rod on the front row..
It looks like the present operators have cleaned up Charlie row... Just a few wrecked Herc's there now and all neatly lined up...
(ATC tower seems in the wrong place)

The wife and I were visiting Robins a few weeks ago.. We spent some time at the museum... Took a look at the bird in question and I feel it is too far gone to be restored easily... Some of the hardware added for the project is still in place in poor condition.. Parts missing from the airframe and engines... A poor investment regardless of how we feel... I would suggest that it be encouraged to pull it out of the weeds and place a marker telling it's story.. We could still walk by and admire a significant 'Herky-Bird'.............. Jack.......
