  1. Did they get any more former WC's? If not, do they have any other E/H's?
  2. I know the center seat position on the first Herks was called the Flight Mechanic. What other aircraft had actual Flight Mechs? I remember the Air Force discontinued FM's a while back. Anyone remember when? What are/were the differences between an FE and FM (and FCC)? Performance qual would be one I know. Just curious, too much time on my hands (not really!). Thanks!

    KC-135 Question

E-3's have FE's. A good buddy that use to fly Hercs with me left Keesler about 10 years back to become Chief FE for the then new Reserve AWACS unit.

It's one thing to have a bird recycled into beer cans that crew (air and ground) can enjoy later, but a dump? I hope every little salvagable part was stripped off her first. I'm sure the big stuff, engines, hydraulic pumps, etc. was put back in the system.
  5. We (the 815th @ Keesler) had one comeoff in the late 80's or early 90's. I was new at the time. I heard that there was a door open light sometime after takeoff. Someone saw the door handle was in-between locked and open. The engineer decided to try to move it to locked. He said when he touched it, in an instant the handle slammed to open and the door blew off. He said he thought he was gonna get sucked out the plane even with the harness on.

  7. Did anyone know a Navy Loadmaster named J D who retrained as a Flight Engineer in 1988? And do you know how to contact him? Sorry, I don't remember his last name and I can't make it out from his signature on our BFE class picture.

    C-130A Data

Thanks Tri-Star. That's the only thing I could figure. Donwon, we had pogo sticks on the E's I flew on, so I was familiar with them. I can see the pole I was talking about in a black and white sketch done from the cargo compartment looking up into the cockpit. You might be familiar with it. It was called "The Front Office" and was done by John Dioszegi in 1980.

What was the purpose of the pole next to the cockpit steps?

    C-130A Data

What happened to the YC-130A's? Were they converted to regular C-130A's? I ask this because I never reallized 53-3129 wasn't the very first C-130, period.
  11. We had those cans like Tiny posted. They filled up quick and then stunk like hell. We usually reserved it for ladies and guys instead of the honey bucket. I used it twice in 18 years and it reminded me of the lav in back of a Greyhound.
  12. Hey, I was just channel surfing while recovering from rotator cuff surgery and stopped to watch Shockwave on the History Channel. This episode had about a 10-15 minute segment on Credible Sport. Had some nice video clips of takeoffs and of course the crash as well as computer generated graphics. This is episode #30 and will be rerun at 0100 CST.
  13. What about 65-0967? Last I heard, it was assigned to the 159 FS, La ANG. This picture was taken June 3, 2008 (by someone else) at Esler Field in Louisiana. [img size=482]http://herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/WC967.jpg
  14. This maybe a little off topic, but I don\'t care for the new Air Force emblem because I associate it with all HerkEng was ranting about. What was wrong with the original?

  17. Would anyone somehow have a copy of the drawing that was above the crew entrance door? Thanks.
