  1. In a way you did; here's what was posted: Many of the APN-59s are being replaced with the APN-241, a Northrop Grumman low power color weather radar (LPCR). There is a TCTO, but I don't recall the number just offhand.

Doesn't entirely address whether any APN-161s were ever installed and if so, starting when. Did the APN-161 get "thrown under the bus" in favor of the APN-241?

  2. OK, Loadmasters, stupid pilot question about the treadways. Keep in mind memory has served too many times as a beer filter, reducing capacity, but don't remember treadways being marked on floor. If load looked like it wouldn't fall on treadways, did you measure them (If so, from where) or just throw shoring down?

  3. At UPT we were taught that hydroplaning occurred wheb your speed was greater than 9 times the square root of the tire pressure. Don't know if this was T-38 specific, seems like weight and number of tires (patch size) should factor in somehow.

  4. Anybody know, were the winches/cable reels for the two trailing wire antennas both in the aft cargo area? The vertical TW antenna supposedly exited out the bottom of the fuselage, fwd of the sponsons. Area above this had the mission crew, so equipment had to be elsewhere.

  5. Guess this applies to all the Special Ops modifed 130s, why didn't the designation use a configuration number (EC-130E-III, for example) instead of the modification code name, IE: MC-130E (Y) or here, EC-130E (RH)?

yes, I know E-III was already taken, but why not E-IV, or whatever wasn't taken?

Also, what did the unit refer to these aircraft as?

  6. A few questions, hopefully someone can enlighten me!

    1. When did the mission change from Volant Solo to Commando Solo? yes I know when AFSOC took over, but when exactly?

    2. Dash one was LTM 1EC-130E(RH)-1. What did the (RH) stand for? Aircraft mod was Rivet Rider (I thought).

    Thanks,

    Dave Mason
