I joined the U.S. Air Force in 1965. I retired in 1987 as a Sr. Master Sergeant. I have been stationed at Dyess AFB in Abiliene, Tx., Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK., Little Rock AFB in Jacksonville, Ar., Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, Fl., and had remote tours to England and Korea.

My career began as a crew chief on C-130's, then went to survival school in Spokane, Wa., where I injured my knee 3 days before graduation. Because of the injury, I then went into regular maintenance on C-130's.

In Korea I was an inspector of OV-10's and F-4's. This only lasted 1 year.

I did flightline maintenance and job control at Dyess, where I spent most of my career, and also where I retired.

I miss the Air Force a lot, and think of C-130's as "my airplanes".

  1. Funny thing happened while I was stationed in Alaska. One winter while I needed to get my A/C off the ramp and into the hangar my asst and I was crossing the main runway well it had snowed and iced a certain part of the runway and the tug had lost traction. He tried to get it rolling I finally fired up the I/B engs and we scooted into the hangar. When we made it in my asst was white as a ghost he told me that was one scary feeling to have that much power being behind him. I cant blame him I wouldve been scared too any other stories Id like to hear them.
