  1. Spoken like a true Southerner!!
  2. Could this be 62-1791 at Harvey Point? 36 6'8.69 N 76 19'33.25 W
  3. I remember being a young 3 level electrician on B58's at Little Rock and the crew chief shacks that were little trailers with a desk and room for about 4 men to cram into. Some cold night having to change an upper anti collision light and they were a pain in the rear to get a stupid little light mechanism removed. You ran down the Garwood stand to the crew chief shack for just an instance to get warm. Those days are only good in my memory for sure!

Sonny , always enjoy those humorous little paragraphs. Have sent e mails to you or thought I had. Larry
  5. Thanks to the both of you, PerfManJ and jconner2 ! Love learning new things on here. Now I've saved the photos from overhead to add to a printable collection for me to enjoy!
  6. Ok thanks for that info, I'd like to save the photos from the google view but haven't figured that out yet. Also thanks for the co ordinates! Larry
  7. One of the links about Gaddafi's undelivered C130S was interesting and I Googled the views showing them. Pretty interesting photos for sure. In the most Southern area photo there are 4 of the 130s and what appears to be a 1011 and possibly a C124? Can anyone advise me? The co ordinates for the photo I'm speaking of is 33.900381 84.516535.
  8. Good to see Mansfield getting some good. Wish they could airdrop all members of Congress in the ocean off the tip of South America!!!!
  9. What determines when good airplanes have to retire? Too many flying hours, weak structure, cost of operating or just plain ol political bs?
  10. Thanks Bob, I'd sent an e mail to an old friend in the Mansfield unit to ask him. Your response is very quick!
  11. As a retired ol Herky mechanic I enjoyed watching news and events about other units that had the 130 and how we had interacted with each other. After I had left the Air National Guard most units were getting brand new models of the 130 and most units appeared to have a choice of the tail number assigned such as Charlotte NC with XX1451, XX1561 and Mansfield, Ohio with XX1791 etc. Later I saw that the 130 fleet from Mansfield had transitioned to some foreign made twin engine copy of the 130. It must have been a piece of junk as I understand the Mansfield unit now has the real C130 back. Wondered if they managed to get their original tail numbers back?
  12. Hey Bob glad you have posted the photos and the story. Good reading for sure!
  13. Glad to see that Mansfield is getting the herk back instead of those stupid foreign 2 engine herk wannabe's
  14. Had this to happen on one of our old B models way back yonder. Removed the flex drives and put them in the rivet freezer in the metal shop. Next day we couldn't turn them with vise grips on the ends. New flexdrives appeared to have cleared our problems back in the day.
  15. I was at CCK and remember seeing 545. The crew chief had so much pride in it that he had a cover made for the backrest on the lower bunk that read "fly with pride on 545". This airplane had also carried Bob Hope and his show on one flight to Vietnam. The C/C was not on that flight as I met him years later when Savannah transitioned from C124 to the Herk E's. He was there conducting a FTD class and we met again. Larry
  16. Ok I stand corrected there and thanks. Now where did i read about the oxygen recharger hose and the circuit breaker panel?
  17. Think this may have been the Herk that was damaged by an Oxygen recharger hose stuffed behind a circuit breaker panel. I took this photo during a Rodeo at Pope around 1987.
  18. Very pleasant addition, Thanks Casey
  19. Casey, thanks so much for posting the link. When I first decided to look for this old Herk on this site, I had tried to use the tail number converter to find out the Lockheed number. It didn't convert but some of the other guys filled me in on what it was. So I saved the photos and then was thrilled to find out the history behind it. The navigator on board during the air mishap has e mailed me and I certainly hope to hear more from him. It is so enjoyable for me to go back through my old scrapbooks and uncover some history about any of the old birds. And all of you guys make it so fun to read and view the photos. Larry PS my avatar photo is Mr. Bean of British Comedy fame
  20. Many thanks to n1dp ! Do you have any old photos or other info about this old bird? I have enjoyed reading what I have found out about it online. By the way I sent a friend request to you. Larry
  21. Here is another photo that I found showing a cold wintry day for 533. Still hope someone has some photos of when it was damaged. Larry
  22. Way back in '85 I was out at Tucson while we were doing MAFF training and took this photo of an old Coast Guard herk being used as a trainer. It has the number stenciled on the fuselage as 61-2083. But this number doesn't convert in the tail number converter. Does anyone know why or why not? When I put the tail number converter info together I did not include the USAF assigned tail numbers to aircraft bought for other US military or for foreign military sales. I thought it might be confusing since most of these aircraft never wore USAF numbers. When I get some time, I'll try to input that information. Bob
  23. I hope you do have the photos, would be nice to see them. Keep hoping that some of the Wyoming guys would post photos too. Larry
  24. 59-1533 c/n [cn]3586[/cn] This was the tail number of one airplane damaged at Cheyenne. This airplane was reportedly picked up and dropped back to the earth during a tornado. I remembered seeing photos of the fuselage being loaded into a C5, I think and sent back to the factory. After wings and a tail it was assigned to the NCANG. I'm sure any of the Wyoming guys might have photos and hopefully they will post them. Larry
  25. Thanks Don, am hoping that someone who might could help will read this. And I didn't think about Pima ; I had called them last week and bought the museum guide they have that tells all about their displays. Might have to give them a call. "A" model part would be okay also. Larry
