  1. I know the few herk guys at McEntire ANGB are disappointed that they lost their C-130. If you didn't know, they had no navs in their unit and only flew airland, no assaults, NVGs, or tac. It was a pretty good gig until now.
  2. Yes, we have one but don't remember which unit it came from. It's one of our early H2s that we've got.
  3. Would've been a good alternative to being BRAC'd other than the high-demand, low-density nature of the Senior Scout mission. Besides, there are other units that take up that mission anyway.
  4. I don't recall seeing 1804 or any specific herk. That was thing that was interesting about 0555, the paint looked brand new.
  5. We just delivered 63-7848 to AMARG. Afterwards, we received a pretty cool tour of the boneyard. There is what appears to be a MC-130E with Idaho ANG markings on it. Does anyone have any info? Sorry, no tail number.
  6. Right now it does. I was never fond of flying 1855, seemed to always have a write-up or come back with one. Despite being the wing king's plane, I thought she should've had a little more upkeep. But then again, it is a 62 E model.

  8. We reverse taxi all the time. There was one time at a sandy location on the other side of the world where we had to reverse up a taxiway (C-130H1) to be able to pull into an engine run spot. Due to the heat and weight of the aircraft, we couldn't do it because our oil temps would get too hot. 19,600 is max torque no matter what. The scariest reversing that I have experienced is when I'm doing a PRO1 sortie with a brand new copilot student. I don't know why we qual CPs in the left seat, but we do and one of the most frustrating thing I have to do is sit in the right seat without the tiller while my student who has never flown in a herk before (sim doesn't count) perform multiple touch and goes including a reverse taxi at the end of the sortie. Needless to say, I'm pretty much operating the throttles because the students rarely know what's really going on.
  9. This is why I never understand Big Blue. It has the technology and parts available to make the current T56s and props better, but yet will still look at a more complex, timely, and expensive option.

  11. 62nd AS (AETC) will retire its last E-model in September. The 61st and 53rd (AMC) will be the last active duty E-model squadrons. Puerto Rico ANG still has E-models, but I have not heard when their Es will be retired. Then there are the MC-130Es as Duke Field (AFRC).

  13. My brother, who's also at LRAFB, said they took cover in their house in Jacksonville. I haven't heard if there is any damage to aircraft. Luckily, my family and I are out of town. Hope everyone is okay.

  15. Senior Scout, it's a modification of a regular C-130H that can be removed.
  16. There is still a lot up in the air and the hiring process is way behind for the reserves. We have a myriad of H2s consisting of early H2s, normal H2s, and a H2.75. I have not heard of what the squadron name will be for the reserves. I think we are still getting H2s, especially as our E's are being retired or transferred to the 19th AW. The final plan is to deactivate the 62nd and the 48th and then reactivate the 62nd as the J model FTU.

  18. Thanks for that link! I've always wondered what the inside of that A model looked like. Other than looking a little more bare in the back, the cargo compartment has remained relativiely unchanged. It's funny that a lot of the instrumentation is the same as what we've got today on the E/H/H1/H2 herks that I've flown. It looks like someone cutout a window and put plexiglass in its place next to the forward emergency escape hatch.
  19. Our standard training fuel load is 34K. The only time we need to adjust it is to go secondary for an assault trainer.

  21. I've never flown an MLS approach outside the sim (during initial qual in '06) nor am I aware of any in the desert. All fields that are IFR capable had ILS, VOR, or Tacan approach. Most guys probably don't even know how to program SNCS to fly a MLS.
  22. Yup, H2s are for the 62nd. I heard the 61st was getting the H1s from Dyess. Know a guy over there that flew 1664 during the Little Rock airshow.
  23. One of the mods that came with the 250 kt landing lights was the dual mode operation. With the master power switch ON, you have IR landing lights. To get normal landing lights, you actually have to turn them ON on the CPs panel (above hyd switches/gauges). The easiest way to remember if they were 250 kt lights was if they had the master power landing light switch on the CP's side shelf. It's been awhile since I've flown an E without them as most E model and new C-130s have been converted. The paratroop air deflectors have a max speed of 150 like the doors. The paratroop doors, once opened and locked/pinned, have a limit of 250 kts.
  24. Anyone know why Lockheed increased the brake pressure to 3000 psi when the H2 was introduced?
  25. The 62nd is supposed to get its first H2 this Monday.
