  1. Are you talking about the tank itself, or the support pylon. The pylon is in 130H-4-51-1, section 52-20-1, Fig 1

If you mean the tail cone on the tank itself, that would be in TO series 6J14 series. I don't have access to those.

  2. I remember we had a hydromite at Moody and Ramstein, but don't remember periodic draining. There's nothing in the old 130A-06 that says anything about it. Of course, I was the avionics guy.

I well remember my days up in the nose wheel well of C-130s on the frozen, wind blown flight line at Elmendorf replacing APN-59 RTs and antennae alone, freezing to death and breaking my back without any help. That system was at least half our workload there which included ALL avionics systems, as we were severely undermanned and expected to fix it ALL right after we transitioned from AAC to MAC. As they told me right after I got there from Moody AFB in December 1979, “You’re no longer a comm/nav troop. You’re an avionics troop”.

Been there, done that way too many times.

    Tiny,

Did you ever get the s*** knocked out of you trying to adjust the centering on one of the IP-268 scopes. I did, three times in a row setting at Cam Rahn Bay. I was cpvered with sweat and told the shop chief I quit for the day my hands were shaking so bad.

I know this is old and you may not see it, but yes. I started wrapping F4 tape around my scribe, should have worn a leather glove to hold the scope.

  5. Anderson pretty much covered everything. Therer are still ARN6 ADF systems on some H models as far as I know, but I've been retired for 10 years.

I probably repaired close to a thousand RT-289s in my career. Early on after training on them, I started replacing the TR and ATR tubes on every one, as well as the PFN if it looked the slightest bit swelled. Our MTBF went up quite a bit.

  6. You can't TDR antenna lines for this system because of the reciever sensitivity of the RT unit. It is over -140db if memory serves correctly. You can rebuild the connectors,  build new cables or swap with another aircraft to see if it fixes the problem. A majority of these kinds of problems are the cables/connectors. Not sure where your R/T is located, or how long the cables are. I built a set of cables just for troubleshooting for several of the different platforms I worked. Also, are there any in line connectors in your aircraft?

Do you guys still have NATEC civilians?
