  8. Part Number 398370-3 and -4 Elevator Counter Balance Weights are made from depleted Uranium. However, Part Number 398370-5 and -6 Elevator Counter Balance Weights are made from Tungsten and were incorporated into production on aircraft 5536 and consistently installed from aircraft 5539 and subsequent. The -5 and -6 Counter Balance Weights are a direct replacement for the -3 and -4.

  11. In response to your query, the following information is provided. 1. The tension regulator assembly should be checked for correct part number and proper adjustment. The part number for the tension regulator assembly is R73-2004-42-3A, 695606-7. 2. The cable tension should be checked for equal tension on both the input and return cables throughout the cable system. 3. The cable rigging should also be RECHECKED from the quadrant to the gimble. We experienced a similar situation of throttle creeping in the past. This problem occurred on older aircraft, which resulted in the rebuilding of the throttle quadrant assembly.

    To add to Topgun's storey about Fred K. What he said and much more is all true. The guy has been there and done that. LM presented him a 25,000-Hour Certificate and Plaque back in November 1992, and before retiring, he probably logged another 6 to 18 thousand hours; no telling how many he really flew without logging. On the ending note, Fred is a great guy and one of the best Herc pilots ever.
