What I mean is you can pull the center plunger or push the plunger to remove the pin. The \"T\" type is a push only type of plunger. Now having either or really doesn\'t make a difference to me as long as you don\'t use the key ring on the push/pull type and hook it up to the lanyard. Doing so may cause the pin to pull out of the retainer during gear operations, if the lanyard (chain) were to get snagged and pull the pin out. This is why the OTI may have come about in the first place, that\'s what I am trying to figure out?? I hate mysteries! DaveB)
  2. Yeah I can understand that!! Oh and Casey great job on the website and congrats on the 500th! I am pretty much used to all the features on here now. Have a good one! DaveB)
  3. Dan, that is what I thought as well. I have a little side bet with another crew chief that the round pins are the right pin for the door, not the other types. I just wish I could get my hands on the OTI that came out back in \'99 or \'00, that would solve this whole little bet. The thing is when you order these pins from the -4 you get the \"T\" type? I still think I\'m right, but maybe somebody can prove me wrong? Thanks! DaveB)
  4. A big DIDDO on that one hydroguy1, thanks all of you!! DaveB)
  5. I believe 64-0542 is also there as well, from the 53rd AS?? DaveB) Disregard, Bob has already tagged this tail, hehe!! Casey you should\'ve just asked Bob, he is the man when it comes to tails!!
  6. Thanks Tiny!! Let me get this straight. There really wasn\'t any TCTO for the O2 bottle relocation, it was just a T.O. change within the GE, correct? Thanks for all the posts! Secondly, is anyone putting the O2 bottles on the 245 wall????? Also, does anyone have any info concerning the Outer MLG Door prop rod pins??? I just need to know what pin the OTI?? was calling for. Was it the \"T\" type pin or the push/pull type? I hope this makes sense and some of you know what I am talking about and not confusing anyone. Thanks again! DaveB)
  7. I want to say that Kulis got Hangar 18, the old 517th hangar. I believe hangar 12 and maybe 14 were torn down for the C-17 hangar. I wander were the guard/AD will be getting there new tails from? I am gone for the next 30days TDY so talk at you all later. DaveB)

  9. Hey all! I am looking for some information on a couple of subjects and thought that someone might know what I\'m talking about. First subject: Do any of you remember back a few years ago when we were having to move the pilots and copilots O2 walkaround bottles to the galley wall when installing flight deck armor? I am looking for the TCTO or OTI that bascially stopped us from doing this anymore. I noticed in the 00GE-00-1 under armor installation that the slick as removed this task, however, the T1, T2, and MC-P still have this listed as a task. I am trying to do a Form 22 to have this removed from the armor installation for these aircraft. Second subject: How about outer main landing gear door pins? I remember back around \'99 or \'00 there was an OTI (i think) that made a standard gear door pin configuration. Do any of you know what pin the OTI called for? Was it the \"T\" type pip pin or the push/pull kind? I know that these are kind of off the wall Q\'s, but I can\'t find any more information on these and it\'s just one of those things I just want to find out about. Thanks! DaveB)
  10. SEFEGeorge wrote: George, I just want to make sure I\'m reading this right (quote). The 517th has been around since 1992. They were redesignated to separate themselves from a group level to be apart of the 3rd wing. See link below and last paragraph. Have a good one! DaveB) http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/usaf/517as.htm This is also a pretty good link for firebird information. www.firebirds.org
  11. To anyone: Has anyone heard any more news on the move from Kulis to Elmendorf? I know that this was part of BRAC 2005 and they have until 2011 to comply, but it seems like the F-22 deal kind of took over up there. I am curious on how the AD/ANG hook up will work as well. Thanks in advance! DaveB)
  12. Hey Dan let me edumucate ya a little! If you take a look at the photo crashmore attached above you will see the deiced herc with \"Santa\" getting ready to walk up the crew door. Every year for about 30 years the 517AS at Elmendorf has been taking Christmas to the Native Alaskans. This is a big event each year and I think that Kulis ANG has taken over since C-17\'s would just ruin the whole thing. I attached a link for some good readin\' from the firebird association website. Have a great Christmas and a great New Year! DaveB) http://www.firebirds.org/menu23/mnu23_p3.htm
  13. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year everyone! Never did get to do Arctic Village. That was one of the trips I would\'ve like to have done. DaveB)

I remember backk in \'99 they said that they were going to do this. I guess 8 years later they finally got around to doing it. So what kind of aircraft are they going to be using operational wise? Is it E models or H\'s? Thanks for the update Bob, I was in that squadron from \'99-\'02. DaveB)
  15. Hey this is a pretty good post! The offload valve should prevent fuel from getting back down the SPR line after that happens, but valves do fail! Dan, I was waiting for your post to see what you had to say about the UARRSI system. I am fairly new to UARSSI since I have been on slicks my whole career (except for 64-14859 aka franken slick, half EC-130, half HC-130 and now a slick!). When you go to \"SUMP DRAIN\" the remaining fuel goes out the UARRSI vent line behind the w/w, correct? Where you still in when they added the rubber hose to this line to prevent the vacuum affect? (Damn that was some funny s!@# on the flick up there!) Thanks for sharing your story 696574CC, and godspeed to your friend and everyone on Jockey 14. Have a good one fellas I have to get ready for an MSET/UCI inspection this week. AFSOC is taking a look at my W&B program. DaveB)
  16. Correct me if I am wrong here: What about UARSSI equipped aircraft? After an inflight refuel the SPR drain pump is used to drain the manifold. When you flip the switch to line drain you automatically open the offload valve to use this feature. What about the fuel once again that is puddled at the bottom of the SPR after that? DaveB)
  17. Max, Man I agree totally with what you are saying on this one! There are many scenarios as to why this gets drained after each refuel. The main one I have heard is the one Dan mentioned earlier with the blown tire. I agree and think this is very senseless with the little amount that is in there. I have seen many times when they actually do drain the thing you may only get a couple of drips and then there are times you might actually get a sufficient amount (1/4 gallon or so). So maybe they put it in the 1C-130H-2-12JG-10-1 for the reason you may have a weak drain pump and it may not suck all that fuel up and put it back in #3? I have seen a few times you get those older engineers and they will pop the SPR cap on a -1 and push the valve in. More times then many they end up getting wet and mad at the same time. Then you see the Crew Chief dragging the bucket because now he has to drain the thing. Good topic though and it will be good to see everyones responses on this one! Do you know Danny White or Matt Stiles? Good people! I hope to get Dyess as my next assignment. DaveB)
  18. I agree with you as well MadMax! Using the manual you have you can\'t go wrong especially since I am currently in QA! I know that the JG is clouded and like you said, the plane has been around for 50+. However, until someone comes up with a better solution or way this is all we have. DaveB)
  19. With a fully configured Talon II, according to the AFI, and without PODS installed, they usually are around 92,000 - 94,000. With the PODS installed you can add around 3113lbs. Our heaviest T2 here is around 93500 fully loaded w/o PODS. This is all basic weight of course. DaveB)
  20. I know, lets invent clear pump housings and put cold full or hot full levels on it and just do away with dipsticks all together! I think it\'s a good idea! I agree with Dan! Add two quarts when the light comes on and press on. I had just completed a 15 day service check and I have always checked the pressurized side. The A/C gets #1 up and running and we weren\'t even upsped yet and the damn light comes on! The dipstick said it was about a (roughly) 1/4 quart low so I just pressed on. Anyway that backfired in my face so I unfolded the ladder and climbed up and serviced the damn thing. So, I really don\'t know what is the best way of checking the thing because I think they are both very inaccurate. Have a good one! DaveB)
  21. I just weighed one. The final CG was: weight=91203, arm=519.90. Hope this helps! By the way this weight is with very minimal -21. I left the dual rails on along with, Life Rafts, and other misc. Chart A items. DaveB)
  22. The very near future starts next month according to leadership here. We have a plane at depot that we will not get back and we should get our new tail next month some time. This oughta be good times since we are getting ready for an MSET/UCI in December and now we have to have this on our plate as well. Hope all is well in the community! Cheers! DaveB)
  23. Hopefully this is the last change! Looks good though! DaveB)
