I'm more of a Herk admirer than a former crewmember, but I was reading recently about the dedication of the AC-130H at Cannon AFB's Heritage park. As part of the aircraft's history, it mentioned Operation Blinking Light and Bield Kirk over El Salvador. I vaguely remember the Blinking Light mission appearing on daily reconnaissance mission summaries while I was in the Air Force over 25 years ago, but wasn't sure what they entailed. Can anyone please provide more information on these missions? Thanks.

My first post! I need some help guys. I went in the AF in May of 66. After basic and tech school at Chanute, I went to Dyess. I was a 42251 and crossed into 43151 so I could be with the aircraft on a more " personal basis". I was sent to CCK, Guam, Fairchild, and Midway but I cant remember 90% of it. My kids and grandkids have asked me about my service memories but I come up blank most of the time. My question is, could you guys recommend any books that would enlighten the kids as to what we did back then(1966-1972)?

I am compiling data and stats and some personal stories if possible about the KC-130F model ser. 149808 for a historic brief sheet to present to the Marine Corps museum that will accompany a 6' wing span model of the aircraft that a fellow Marine and myself restored. The info gathered will aid in the concideration of the acceptance of the model as an offical donation to the museum.

I'm hoping to find someone who might remember this or may have been involved. Between 1976 and 1979 I lived in Iran with my parents, near a town called Masjed-I-Suleiman (MIS). We lived in a joint US/British community called "Naftak". The US part of the community were the employees (and their families) of a US company called Bowen-McLaughlin-York (BMY) who had a military vehicle repair facility nearby. The British part of the community formed the training staff at a military technical training school located in the town. All worked closely with the local Iranian army units. As history shows, things began to go wrong in Iran during 1978, resulting in the overthro…

John Allen sent me these pictures of 55-0005 and 56-0469. They were Blind Bat aircraft. The pictures appear to be taken at Naha and Ubon 1969-70.

Today is the 50th anniversary (Nov. 24,1969) of the date my plane, C-130A tail number 56-0533, was shot down over Laos during a Blind Bat flare mission.

Does anyone have the tail numbers of the C-130s at Yakota in the mid 60's? A friend was a crew chief in aero repair there and wishes he had the tail numbes. His name is Gary Carpenter.

Okay you Crew Chiefs/Maint. personnel here is a question that I need to have an answer for!! I might forget it by tomorrow!!! Do any of you old CRB input or TDY guys remember when Herky Hill was built and put into use?? The reason I am asking is that my first trip/input to Viet Nam--Cam Rahn Bay, was in December 1967. While I was there, I stayed in a quanset on the main base!! Not Herky Hill. Like I said, it was my first trip but I was with my crew chief (Willard) and assistant crew chief (Lafferty) so it wasn't their first! Every time I went to CRB for the next 3 years, I lived at Herky Hill. I know some of you guys here on the forum were on inputs to CRB before m…

Casey Emailed me and asked about the CAROLINA MOON page I had on my old SamC130 site. To be honest, I\'m not sure if I forgot to transfer it to my new domain or if it was one of a number of pages that were accidentally replaced when I tried to use FRONT PAGE several years ago. I\'ll put up a new page about the mission when I find the time, but in the meantime, here is a capsuled version. CAROLINA MOON was a special mission that came about in the spring of 1966 when Seventh Air Force was unable to knock down the infamous Than Hoa Bridge spanning a gorge known as The Dragons Jaw just north of Vinh. Several missions were flown by F-105s without success in a campaign that …

Anyone here know anything about the "Bangkok Incident"? The guy who told me about it said that when he tried to casually ask an AF officer about it in the 1970's, the guy immediately clammed up. Loss of control with such violent gyrations that it was said all the propeller blade bearings were "shattered".

45 years after Doc Jensen's crew was picked up from the burning wreckage of their plane (63-7775 c/n 3841) while under fire from the bad guys, the Army helicopter crews that rescued them have finally been awarded the Silver Star. This was one of the planes shot down during the An Loc Airdrops of 1972. The rescue probably saved the lives of the entire crew. You can easily find all the stories of the Battle of An Loc on the Internet. The crews who recently received the Silver Star for the rescue are the ones who picked up the C-130 crew of Capt. Don (Doc) Jensen after his plane was hit during the air drops and crashed into unfriendly territory. Fox News Art…

Anyone here on the board serve at Clark with a navigator names William Simon III ? I am guessing during the 70's but possibly earlier... I recently came into possession of one of his flight suits and hoping to learn a little more about him and his time in the C-130 at Clark.
