Guest
I flew home as a pax on a C-54 from Homestead, FL to Truax Field,Wisc in mid-December 1962, as the Cuban crisis was winding down. It was \"take this flight, or wait \'till after Christmas\"; no seats, because the cargo compartment was full of missle caskets. Just found a comfortable spot on top of about 4 layers of metal cases, curled up, and rode it out. I was in Air Defense then, and the best transportation we could get was C-54s, C-123s, and C-47s. We were envious of all the TAC weenies getting hauled out in the \"nice/new\" C-130s...such pretty airplanes....they had all the priority.
