But to his disappointment and dismay, he found a crowd of inconsiderate loungers shutting him off from the fire. “Half a peck of oysters in the shell for my horse,†he called out in a loud voice. When the astonished inn-keeper went out to obey this startling order, the entire assemblage—save Franklin—rushed out to see a horse eat oysters.
