It owes its birth to Joe Dunn, an English bailiff, who was so indefatigable and skilled in collecting debts, that it became a proverb, when a person did not pay his debts, “why don’t you Dunn him?" That is, “why don’t you send Dunn after him?†Hence originated the word which is in general use today.
